Mysterious fortune card...still worth the trouble?

Hello all, long time lurker, first time poster.

I've been tinkering around with the cards, barking in trade, adding incentives etc.

I've created the demand but at this point I'm wondering if it would be worth my time. After a few hours barking I burned through 600 cards. Only caveat is they're cheap, they go for around 6.5g, and mats go for around 4.8-5.2g.

TL;DR Low profit, decently high volume. Worth the trouble?

The profit from Fortune Cards is pretty low, that's true. But it depends on the herb you're milling for it.

I milled some thousand stacks of Whiptail for DMF-Trinkets and sold at least part of the blackfallow ink via MFCs:

    1 Stack Whiptail = 60g
    1 Stack Whiptail = 1 Inferno Ink + 6 Blackfallow Inks
If you can sell 6xMFC for 6.5g, that's 39g and leaves the price for one inferno-ink at 21g, thus one Destruction-card at 210g + 30xVolatile Life (assuming a price of 5g / Life, one Card is 360g thus one trinket at 2880g).

If you would trade BFInk for Inferno-Ink, one Inferno-Ink would cost 37.5g ==> one trinket = 4.2k Gold.

So the profit from Fortune Card itself isn't really good - it's the overall-ratio which makes selling FCs so interesting.

On my server MFC go for 7-9g, when sold I make about 140% profit because the Burning Embers sell for so high and so well. However for me the amount of milling, crafting, relisting, etc just isn't worth the tiny bit of income - regardless of how good a %profit it gives.

For someone new without much gold to invest this is definitely a good way to go, but for someone like me who invests 10-20k gold at a time on jc mats or enchant mats or inscription mats (I like doing it in one big chunk) it just isn't worth the time.

I was trading in my Blackfallow Ink for Inferno Ink originally, but now I think I'm going to switch gears and start turning some of that ink in fortune cards, and then make fortune cookies to sell. I've been able to sell the cookies for 10.5g per fairly consistently, at about 10 to 15 stacks every 3 to 4 days. Not a massive high volume, but it does allow me to get a decent bit of gold per blackfallow ink. The rest of the ink I'll trade in for Inferno Ink and sell it. That might sound counterproductive, but it allows me to keep a more static per card cost basing it on what Inferno Ink I get from milling only.

I just wish I could get Volatile Life for 5g per, as some of you have stated. I'm lucky to see it at 7g per on my server, and it usually sits at 8g+ per.

Well, at the moment Life is mostly between 5 and 7g, sometimes even going up to 9g. But i bought all of life when it was at 3-5g, for my tailor (30 / week), for my two trans-alchemists and for the DMF-shuffle. I got 7k of them on my bank-char and only buy more if they go below 3g (yeah... sometimes it really happens! ^^).

Since MFCs move pretty slow for me (just like on your server, Drrwho), i use the blackfallow ink of 1 out of 7 stacks for MFC, the second out of 7 stacks for Dust of Disappearance and i trade the rest for inferno ink. It just helps to go lower than competitors :-)

1 = 1 , 3 , 1/10 of an or 1/3 of a glyph. Those are numbers that you will want to keep a pretty close eye on. You won't likely be able to continuously pump all your blackfallow into 1 source without saturated the market, so be aware of all of them and plan accordingly.

As a whole, herbs on my server are cheap (24g for lower tier, 35 for upper). Would this change any of your strategies?

Don't forget , which is technically a derivative of , but still part of that equation and a viable option as well. I have very little, if any, competition on these on my server. It's not a large volume seller, but still worthwhile to sell. I have 5 to 10 stacks of 20 up most of the time, and it usually sells within 48 hours. What doesn't sell in the 48 hour timeframe, I re-list at the same price for another 48 hours. I rarely have to list the same stacks a 3rd time. Almost always sells out within 96 hours.
