Have you soloed Flame Leviathan this week?

Just a heads-up to all you engineers out there: with cata gear, Flame Leviathan is stupid easy to solo nowadays - meaning you can easily get mats for crafting that hog/chopper (various bolts, elementals, as well as the expensive NPC-sold parts).

Here's a quick guide to how to do it:

1/ Grab any vehicle, head for leviathan, clear up the trash mobs on the way.
2/ Pull FL, and die (yes, die).
3/ When you get back (use the portal), all vehicles will be parked right in front of him. Now here's the trick: you can use multiple vehicles in the fight. Once you've wiped once on FL, he just sits in the middle of his room, waiting to be shot at to aggro. So you can park multiple vehicles to get him. Vehicles automatically explode if they remain unused for around 5 minutes or so, and obviously, they take damage because he AoEs a lot. Here's what you do:
3-1/ park a demolisher near the entrance, a bike close to it, and a siege engine a bit further.
3-2/ Hop into the demolisher, and plaster FL with 10 stacks of pyrite. In full 359 gear, with 10 stacks of pyrite on him, FL was already down to 15% HP.
3-3/ Let FL destroy the demolisher, hop into the chopper, and drive to your siege engine(which should be a bit further away).
3-4/ Hop into the siege engine, switch seats to get into the canon. Shoot the heck out of FL, activate the shield when he reaches you, and finish him.
3-5/ Loot, skin, hope you're lucky.

It doesn't take long (and being an engineer, you can literally port to ulduar), and it can make your chopper/hog business way more profitable if you get lucky.

I've heard of people soloing FL (I know it was 2manned in WOTLK) but never looked into doing it myself. I'm not an engineer but how much normal coin loot does he drop?

His coin loot has been nerfed into oblivion. I think he loots something pathetic along the lines of 15g (haven't checked precisely when I killed him, I wasn't really after that). The only real point in doing him is getting chopper mats.

The wowhead comments indicate that he doesn't give chopper parts anymore. Can anyone confirm or deny?

Just tried this myself, and I feel you've made it complicated. Granted my average ilvl is 363, but 1 demolisher was enough for me. It took FL quite a while to kill my demo (3.7mil hp). So I shot 5 pyrites in a row, then let started using the cannon thing while letting the pyrite dmg tick, using the remaining 5 shots te refresh the DoT.

I did try your tactic, but by the time my demo was broken, so was the chopper, so I died. A quite note on your post, you're confusing demolishers and siege engines. The siege engines are the tanks, with the shield. And the demolishers are the dpsers, with the pyrite.

    Drop were:
    15g

    And through engineering:
    x2
    x2
    x8
    x17

Edit: A quick note on trash. Just grab a demo and ride straight through to the end, where you fight FL. The damage you take is next to nothing, just do a crazy ivan once in a while to get rid of the little adds, but dont stop for towers. The only towers you need to kill are the 2 closest to FL, they'll keep spawning adds that'll attack your vehicles when they spawn there.

Thanks for the heads-up for having confused the two. However, I find it odd your chopper was destroyer, mine got along fine. If you're having that problem, you might want to leave your demolisher a bit earlier.

As for no longer looting the chopper parts, that would make the entire thing pointless. However, I wouldn't jump to conclusions. Personally, I've killed him quite a few times during WotLK and never got parts, so it could just be people with crappy RNG like me saying that.

I can't confirm it yet; I'll start going every week and report back, but I can say this: Throughout all of Wrath, and we went back for a long time while working on Conq/Champ of Ulduar and Herald of the Titans, I never saw a single chopper part. I'm not saying he doesn't drop them, I'm just saying that just because people aren't seeing them doesn't mean he doesn't! Random is random! But I'll start reporting back with my findings.

This sounds like a poor investment of time. Does he drop anything else besides this? http://www.wowhead.com/npc=33113/fla...an#engineering

I guess the most expensive item on that list are the Titansteel Bars. I'm sure there are more efficient ways to get those.

Now on the other hand, if fun is to be factored in this equation, then by all means, do it! In fact, I think I will go solo Flame Leviathan for the fun of it.

Flame Leviathan has a frontal attack, that would be why more than one vehicle takes damage at a time (my chopper got slaughtered first time I did this as well, fortunately 370 ilvl demos solo FL).
