Acquiring Volatile Fire... the easy way

I know there are a decent number of people that are aware of this, but there are a decent number of people that are NOT aware of this or ever thought about this.

In Twilight Highlands and Mount Hyjal, there are Pools of Fire in a smaller area in each zone. Fishing from them gets your 1-2 per cast, and you get between 2 and 5 casts per pool (5 is not that common, but it does happen). So you can nab 2 - 10 volatile fire per pool, with minimal time & effort involved.

    Locations for each zone:
Mount Hyjal - Sulfuron Spire (south-central part of zone)
Twilight Highlands - East/Northeast of Elementium Depths, in purple area (southwest part of zone)

There are typically 2 or 3 pools up at a time in each zone. As one is used by, another one will spawn to replace it, but can take several minutes or respawn (up to 10 minutes at worst).

And as a bonus, fishing in these pools does count towards the [achievement]That's A Lot of Bait[/achievement] guild achievement.

Just a quick tip I thought I'd share.

There are also a few chest spawns close by to this area, so when you're waiting that 1-3 minutes for more pools to spawn you can do a quick fly-around to see if you can spot any. Most of the blue BoEs still sell very well on my server (so I'm assuming it's even better elsewhere, considering how backwater Malygos can be). This isn't something I farm very consistently, but I definitely hop down there whenever I need volatile fire for something and it's not remarkably cheap on the AH.

    Silken Treasure Chest: http://www.wowhead.com/object=207512
    Sturdy Treasure Chest: http://www.wowhead.com/object=207484

Map of both: link (going by Wowhead, there's probably unlisted spawns).

PS: Before anyone starts squinting at the loot tables, the chests drop loot roughly applicable to the level of the zone they're in. On the "Contains" tab click "All" and then sort by level or req., and you'll get a much better idea of what you have a chance to pick up if you're lucky enough to find one of these chests.

And I learn something new again... didn't honestly even know about those chests. Probably because I've never found one before

Is there an addon that can "find" these for you? Something like NPCScan?

I honestly have no idea, it'd be amazing if there was though. I usually just keep the maps for relevant zones open on Wowhead whenever I'm farming anything and check in on the different locations while I'm flying around. I know practically nothing about how addons function though, so this might be possible/already done somewhere.

Yea, I'm not great with add-ons either, so I know what you mean. Would seem like it might be possible, using a similar design as NPCScan uses, but then again, it might not be. NPCScan is looking for NPCs technically, actual characters/creatures and not objects.

Well, now that I think of it though, NPCScan does pick up on the Camel Statues in Uldum. I wonder if it'd be possible to put in the ID for the chests in NPCScan and see if it would find them. The only issue is that it caches it after finding something, and clearing that cache is annoying.

Yes, I have a herbalism/mining addon - Gatherer and it shows the chests as well, you can download the maps for it and if you find a new one it will add it to your map. It also can get tells from other people in your guild with the same addon.

Gatherer will help in showing where you or a guild member (who also has Gatherer) found one, but it won't show them on the mini map or pop a pseudo achievement looking window on your screen when one is "found" in proximity to you. That is what NPCScan does when it finds a rare mob. I may experiment with this and see if I can add the ID of those chests to NPCScan and see if it will find them for me.

Something else to keep in mind when looking for the chests is phasing. I was flying through Uldum when I randomly spotted one, but it disappeared as soon as I got close. Spammed the spot in /general and made a leveling paladin very happy, but yeah. I never actually leveled all the way through Mount Hyjal, so I'm not sure if the area around Sulfuron Spire is phased or not, but I'm pretty sure all the chests along the road between the Sanctuary of Malorne and The Seat of the Chosen will have issues.
