    Need Alchemy Advice

I finally got off my duff and leveled Alchemy on my 85 Shaman, to bring my total number of high level Alchemists to two. I set her up as an elixir spec, then started taking a hard look at flasks. And boy was it sad.

Cata flasks are consistently below mats costs, while Wrath flasks simply aren't selling [I may try dropping the price on them a bit to see what happens]. Wrath flasks I don't care too much about, since I'm simply burning through some back stock.

However, the current state of Cata flasks leaves me sad and disheartened. If I have to rely on procs to turn a profit, then I don't feel it's worth the effort. There is too much risk for the gold investment at that point, which I could easily roll into Savage Leather and sell leg armors or pristine hides [I'm doing this already].

My only theory is the level of difficulty of the current content means there are precious few raiders who aren't in an established guild and raid. It also means that if those raids pick anyone up as a fill-in, they will supply that person from a cauldron.

So here's my question: where do I go from here? I have little experience with potions, but I'm not hearing much good news from those I know who do. I can switch to a second xmute spec, but then I'm just stuck with two characters doing Elements/Truegold and I'd much rather move into something a bit higher volume.

I know that Zoxy is in the middle of an Alchemy test on his server, but I'm not expecting a lot to come out of it.

I'm hoping that once 4.2 shows up, things will finally change. And it's entirely possible people will flask ZG/ZA when 4.1 first hits, too.

Did you look at prices over time? I haven't done too much with flasks, but my impression is that it's highly dependent on day of the week. I would check sales/price trends for your server on TUJ.

Prices have done nothing but drop over time. All Cata flasks were under 100g last night, which is the premium raid night. Average mats cost is probably 98g on my server. All cata flasks that are up right now are back up over 100g each, but they have been on the AH for ~13h (i.e. people who posted in the morning before work; no one is buying).

I used to be able to follow the waves in Wrath. The problem is there is barely a ripple in Cata so no rise in demand to meet the fairly steady supply.

I'm aware that DMF is driving up V.Life prices right now, but this is how it's been the past 3-4 weeks at least.

For sure cauldron and guild perks related to them can explain the price drop
For example in our guild (lvl22) we provide 1 flask each for a raiding night and we are done for 2 cauldrons therefore we are spending half the quantity of flask (even more for an alchemist)
The only thing you can check is the spirit flask as it is not available in the cauldrons

Personnaly I switched back to transmute spec

Dont underestimate the amount of guilds using guild cauldrons, this might explain why there's no waves in sales.
If i was in your place i'd go for another transmution mastery and sell volatile airs in stack of 6 i drop about 3 stacks of 6 on average a day for 1c cheaper at the ah a day and i haver had to relist them.
The reason i sell them in stacks of 6 is mostly because of the there's no easy way to farm these afaik so people that are either selling scrolls on the ah or need it for their weapon wil buy these anyway, you can even get away with selling them for more then the actual cheapest airs on the ah just for the convenience of only need to click once to get them all 6.
If your only goal is to become rich, you will never achieve it.

Our guild doesn't even have the cauldrons yet even though we're level 19 (or maybe it's 20). We've had our elixir masters making stuff and they're just stuffing the flasks into the gbank because they won't sell on the AH. At this point, it's probably too late to make much of a profit - except from the spirit flasks as long as the cauldrons won't give them out. Most folks would rather make cards right now because the Darkmoon Faire is currently up. If it wasn't for the fact that we need to make more flasks to unlock the cauldrons, we probably wouldn't even bother right now.

I usually just burn my transmute (I'm a Transmute Master) on requests from guildmates or on balancing out my volatile stash in case I want to do truegold transmutes.

Yeah, what's up with this flask non-sense. Later on in the expansion, people will have forgotten what flasks are, after using guild cauldrons so much.

I feel a bit vindicated that others are seeing the same thing. I think I'll make a bunch of the Spirit flasks, then swap the character to Transmute. I can use the xmute to make V.Fires for Leg Armor.

I have 9 transmute spec alchemists, but right now I'm not using any of their CDs unless I need some volatile air to make electrified ether (engineering) or dream cloth (tailoring). It's not worth using the 15 volatile life for the living elements xmute vs. using that for DMF production on my server. Selling the CD in trade is always an option though.
