    Lightbulb Brainstorming ideas for Prospecting/Milling

First I'll apologize in advance if I'm talking nonsense, my mind goes random places when I'm still awake at 7am.

Thanks to our wonderful bots, I've become quite overloaded with cheap ore. It seems like in the time it takes to prospect 100 stacks, there's another 100 on the AH.

Out of boredom, I was browsing different places on the net about prospecting including the official forums and some bot-related sites. The main thing I took away from these is that the Blizzard ToS mandates every action requires it's own physical input from the user.

While contemplating this, I got to thinking about the old one-button cancel/repost AH mods and the new functionality of TSM and the like. In TSM you have to click the Post button 400 times if you want to post 400 auctions, but you can fire away clicking as fast as you can and let TSM queue everything up.

I wonder if it would be possible to develop something like this for prospecting/milling, where you still input the correct number of physical keypresses/clicks/etc but queue them up and let the add-on process the task.

I realize that the big difference between posting auctions and prospecting is that prospecting has a cast time involved. I have a feeling developing an add-on like this would definitely be possible, I just wonder how Blizzard would feel about something like this.

The real solution to all this is for Blizzard to implement a prospecting/milling tab similar to the smelting tab where you can take advantage of the "create all" button, but who knows when or if something like that will come along. Until then, my mind will still wander.

I use a technique that is in a grey area of the ToS (I feel) that utilizes my n52te. I will only use it while I am sitting at the computer, though. (yes I know this still doesn't make it right)

It's not the perfect answer to your problems, but it's pretty much the best we can get based on our current situation.

It's either that or you just keep pressing a key while you watch some TV. APM/TSM behavior should show you that even with them, you can't simply click X times and then walk away. The command queue is not infinite, or large.

Interesting thoughts. I would think the functionality would be there, but what Blizzards stance on it would be is a complete mystery. I certainly don't see them doing any type of implementation, as it would probably not rate very high on their "to-do" list.

If other addons can queue the physical actions taken by a player, I don't see how it would be objectionable for another to do it.

Would love to hear others thoughts on the topic.

Exactly what I do. Set up a prospecting macro, bind it to a key, then loop the key (making sure there isn't a sub 5 stack of ore.). Works for prospecting, milling and disenchanting, though I too tend to sit at the PC and watch something on the second monitor at the same time.

I'm assuming it's not against the ToS because A) It's a G15 that I believe is allowed and B) You have to be in the game for it to work. If you tab out then it stops working (at least for me anyway).

G15 macros are still a bit of a grey area. One thing I'm fairly sure works though is what I do (someone else suggested this in another thread) is bind my prospecting/milling/use leather scraps macro to my mousewheel. Because I have a G700, I can unlock the scroll, so all I have to do is sit back, relax, spin that wheel like hell (one push every 10 seconds approximately) and get your stuff done.

How does that work, how do you set it up? I currently have a G9 mouse, and I suppose it would work there aswell?

Don't kid yourselves guys - looping a G15 macro to mash a key is against the ToS. Tons of people do it and most don't get banned or warned, but don't be surprised if blizzard's slaps you on the wrist.

Your idea is an interesting one ExtremeEagle, but cast times have a purpose in this game. There's a 2 second cast time for prospecting because otherwise one would not be required to sit at the computer for hours on end to prospect stacks.

Exactly. Just imagine what your server's economy could potentially look like if it didn't cost those bot farmers hours to mill/prospect/craft their ores herbs. The timesink is a calculated investment, which I believe is both intentional and necessary for maintaining a balanced economy.

I am just curious as how they would detect a G15 looping. I know there needs to be a hardware action per ingame action. Wouldn't it just see it as a hardware action? or a script?

The mouse scroll wheel idea was a good one. I have a G500 and I can just spin it and it would go for a solid 10 seconds easy.
