    JC Token Guidance

In short, I have a level 74 JC/Tailor that will hit 75 later this week. At the least, I will have her set up as a second source of JC tokens. Initially, I was going to just have her flip Chimera's Eyes and see what kind of gold is in just that market. My main has nearly every cut I'm currently interested in anyway (not touching any new meta cuts unless I can get them for 1000g or less).

She's also my bag alt, so her bag space will be taken up by cloth, bolts and bags in various states of crafting.

So for those of you with multiple JCs, are you using the others for gear crafting? Just Chimera's Eye factories? Filling out rare/meta cuts? My other option is to begin stockpiling tokens for if/when epic cuts show up, but we have ZERO information so I don't see that as anything more than a last resort.

    Thoughts?

Me myself on my second JC im stocking up for when we get the new epc cuts released, the reason is simple i believe many people are currently doing the same on the main JC when they have all cuts they want/need or a second JC and i really don't want to be late to the party.

On the subject of the jewelery i have a few of the designs on my main JC and they turn a decent profit i sell 2-3 a week nothing major but its worth it getting few or better yet watch the market for a weak and record who has them listed and if they sell and how often then make a decision.

With chimera's eye if your server is like mine there is so much competition i myself find it's not worth it in the long run, but yet again watch the market for a week or so and then decide all realms have different takes on proffesions and what works on 1 realm may not on another.

I think there are other equally likely possibilities for the epic cuts. For example, they might be added to existing factions, they might be added to a new faction in the patch, they might be added to an entirely new vendor and/or faction combo that provides better gating of those patterns through daily quests, they might be world drops, they might fall from the skies on the backs of unicorns and must be ctrl-clicked then shift-clicked and then finally you must hit alt-f4 while screaming "ADRIAAAAAAAANNNNNNN".

Alright, that last one probably isn't one of the equally likely possibilities. My point stands though, don't put too much stock in what Blizzard did before because in the current history of JC, nothing has been released in exactly the same way that it was before.

Hmmm.... This actually puts you in a position to make a big speculation play. I'm 50/50 that epic cuts will use the current tokens. Chimera's Eyes go for ~300g on my server. Call me a snob, but 300g a day just isn't too interesting to me - also consider that you won't be able to complete the Elemental Goo quests unless you level some more, and the other dailies (except the dust one) require mats, which slightly offsets that gain.

One thing is for sure - Chimera's Eyes will still be top gem when epics come out. There will still be demand when new gear is introduced in 4.1 & 4.2. Blizzard has also stated that they want to keep crafted gear relevant, which could mean more ring / neck patterns that could use Chimera's Eye. The risk you run, is that if another currency is introduced, Chimera's Eye will become obsolete overnight, and the market may flood.

Honestly, given the options above, I'm inclined to think that Blizzard will keep using the current JC tokens. The may be an intermediate phase where patterns only drop off of bosses or something to that effect, but making JC tokens obsolete seems unlikely. I may grab 1 more Dream Emerald cut myself and start stockpiling my tokens...
Retired - I blame Kathroman for everything.

    (that's a joke, eh)

Initially i used my second JC just to gain patterns twice as fast but now i have a good stock of patterns i am simply using both to stockpile tokens.
As calianna said epic gem patterns could be made available in any number of ways and past performance is no guarantee of future performance, but if i had to put my money on anything it would be them being available through the current set of tokens.
Blizzard are getting really horny for the token system, it worked well in wrath and they haven't changed how we acquire rare patterns so i would bet my gold on them being available through tokens.

This is pure speculation and i have argued the case of speculation over certainty before.e.g. on how epic gems themselves may actually be acquired in cata but for me all the signs point directly to a repeat of the wrath system for buying epic patterns but we won't be certain until we get more official information and Blizzard are not unknown for throwing a major curve ball from one expansion to another.

As you [will] have two JC's and were looking to hedge your bets a little you could use one to stockpile tokens and one to buy chimera's eye to sell of craft as you find best.

I see Cataclysm like Goldilocks - BC was too hardcore, Wrath was too soft, Cata is Blizz's attempt to get it just right. I honestly wouldn't be at all surprised to see epic gem patterns drop from heroic dungeon / regular raid bosses in 4.2, followed by being purchasable with tokens in 4.3.

If they did do that i wouldn't see the same patterns being bought as can drop which would in essence defeat the point. What i would see more likely along these lines (but i still see as unlikely) is some sort of epic gems dropping from bosses then/and epic patterns being purchasable.

Thanks for the tips guys. Sorry if I caused more debate over epic gems. I was looking at the perspective of doubling my JC token "income" and was looking for suggestions.

As regards the dailies, I'm already doing mass prospecting on my current JC, so he will simply mail a small stock of the cool colored gems to the other JC for daily days.

No worries about the debate. The problem I see is that too many people seem to be going tunnel-vision on tokens. I'd hate to see people forgoing a lot of opportunity thinking tokens are a sure-thing when they are really a gamble.

One issue about epic gems (at least back in WotLK) is that their raw stats overwhelmed the socket bonuses, which greatly reduced the number of designs that buyers wanted. There was a lot less incentive to sift through a couple dozen hybrid gems when a monster-sized single-stat gem provided a bigger boost regardless of the socket color. How many tokens to do you need to buy the Solid, Bold, Shifting, and Brilliant designs that will make up the bulk of your sales? Two weeks?

I played the token and titanium stockpiling game in WotLK, and it was mostly a wasted effort. I purchased all but 5 of the epic gem patterns on patch day, most of which never sold a single gem. A few weeks after patch day, I was literally vendoring some of them just so I wouldn't have to keep relisting the failed designs. With metas requiring 3 red gems to activate, I suspect a lot of characters will simply buy a dozen Super Rubies to fill their slots and call it a day, so I'm not stressing over a need to cover every pattern this time around.
