    A fun little experiment

I've got a second JC sitting at 460 skill until I can tack 3 more levels onto her. She's also my Tailor.

Seeing the new undercutting war going on with the warm-colored raw green gems, I'm going to try something fun on the side. I'm going to start buying out everything under 9g to cut and vendor; I'm curious how much money I can make by simply doing this method.

I'm not looking for a huge new stream of income, but it lets me do something else with a second JC before I can bring her fully online. This has the added benefit of removing some of the excess raws from the market (I can buy about 30 Alicite right now under vendor price). Yes it's true I can shuffle it, but I'm already doing that with my other JC.

I'm curious what you guys think about this. Is this just the ramblings of someone with 10 minutes of downtime at work, or do you guys do something similar?

I do this everyday. Sure, it isn't much, but I almost never use up my 200/day RAH limits, so I'm basically just grabbing some alicite / whatever other gems are under 9g while I'm hitting the head and making "free" money. Sure, time is used, but it isn't on the order of time that it takes to process thousands of ore, nor does it rely on statistical averages to ensure profitability, so even a single purchase is profitable.

Handy little sell macro for Alicites, which can be customized to whatever gem you cut frequently:

    Code:
    /script for b=0,4,1 do for s=1, GetContainerNumSlots(b), 1 do local n=GetContainerItemLink(b,s); if n and string.find(n,"Fractured Alicite") then DEFAULT_CHAT_FRAME:AddMessage("Selling "..n); UseContainerItem(b,s) end; end; end

I do not currently bother cutting and vendoring gems. It is simply not worth my time from an explicit accounting POV or from an opportunity cost POV. With my gems, I saturate the cut gem market, then the intermediate steps market, turn rest into shadowspirit diamonds, saturate that market ( I have all meta cuts), saturate that material market, then xmute the others where profitable.

I do some cut n vendoring when the mood takes me Every now and then you find someone selling stacks under cut/vendord price and they often have many more in their bank too which they are delighted to get rid of. I tend to wait until I have a good number of stacks, empty out my bags and cut the gems whilst I go afk or browse the web. The beauty of cut n vendoring is there is no rush at all to do it yunno. You could leave those gems abandoned in your bank for months and they still be worth exactly the same to the vendor* so just save em up till ya not doing anything urgent and then process them Im not sure if its worth buying ones in the Ah which are like 8g or something but if you find someone selling stacks and stacks for 100g or so then its def worth snapping em up IMO.

If you are happy to do this with some afk cutting, don't forget you can often pick up Wrath rares below the 4g50 cut gem vendor price. I have large amounts of in various mails that I cut/vendor with afk cutting time. The decent Wrath cuts still sell too, I trickle feed this market with one or two of each of the good cuts each day (eg at 25g or so).
