    Value of Elementium Ore

A new farmer has shown up in the Elementium market. I'm getting ready to contact him for possibly some dedicated work, but I'm trying to gauge the value of the ore.

For Obsidium, it was pretty easy because of the vendor price of uncommons. So, does Elementium get valued higher or lower? Increased chance of getting rare gems, but they vendor for less.

I'm aware of the spreadsheet and I have that at home to play with, but I'm trying to gauge the floor of the ore based on results. Does it actually have a lower value than Obsidium because of the lopsided vendor prices?

To get an idea of what I'm thinking, Ele Ore is currently up for around 68-70g/stack. I've seen him sell it on the AH for about 50-55/stack so I'm going to see if he'd do that as a COD or trade price since there's no AH cut.

    Thoughts?

Oh my server ore is sitting at around 50-55g. Recently bought about 3000 ore from a gold farmer for 42g a stack, and I thought that was good. How do you find these gold farmers, and how do you make them sell it to you for less than what they would get from AH?

This guy has been posting in huge batches for about the past week, so I'm going to approach him directly. I offer two advantages over the AH: 1) no deposit fee; 2) instant inventory liquidation.

Back on topic, is the floor for Elementium actually lower due to vendor prices, or do we consider it higher based on rare gem market value?

The vendor floor of Elementium is lower due to the lower avg rate of prospected uncommons (high vendor value), and the higher rate of prospected rares (low vendor value). The effective floor - or the break-even value - of Elementium isn't isn't really talked about as long as Demonseye are going for north of 70g uncut and Inferno Rubies north of 130g uncut. When single rare is worth more than a stack or two of ore, and the market value is ~75x the vendor value, all bets are off.

It'd be sort of like talking about the vendor value for Heavy Savage Leather when Pristine Hides are going for 500g a piece.

    (that's a joke, eh)

I agree with most of what has been said here. Personally I value elementium ore at the same price as Obsidium ore which is 54g. While I understand that the true price floor on obsidium is higher since 6 common gems cut and vendored = 54g, on elementium ore you get 4 common gems at 9g vendor price + 2 blue uncommon gems which currently on my server the avg. AH price overall for blue gems is 41.9g (all gems averaged) so in a worst case scenario as long as those 2 blue gems sell for 9g or more I am making profit.

As for each server being different I am currently using the Snatch option to buy elementium ore at 2g each and I am still ending up with about 50 - 75 stacks of ore per day.
We live by the Golden Rule. Those who have the gold make the rules.

Using a very rough estimate for the rare cut markup (prices fluctuate around 80g every few days) when I buy obsidium ore at its cheapest on my server (50g a stack) I'd have to buy elementium ore at most at 75g a stack to make the same profit per gold invested and it rarely gets that low because of the price hardened elementium bars are going for. Not to mention buying elementium I'm more tied to idiots crashing rare cut prices every few days rather than having greater flexibility to shuffle or simply sell raw uncommons which do very well. I don't have much gold reserved for investing so obsidium is a far, far better place for it, at least on my server.

Thanks guys, this helps! I'm going to mention Obsidium too, to see if he's interested in either. Now I just need to finish the work day.....

In any event, I'm in the cut rare scene, in part because cut gems were one of my two main money makers back in Wrath and as such they are familiar markets. It's true, I have to deal with flooders and undercutting, but with the remote AH, I'm able to keep a fairly stable presence throughout the day to make sure I'm getting decent sales. Is the income worth the accumulated time? I have no idea, but I'm seeing very good returns.
