Popular Glyphs and Weekly Cycles: some questions

So, after posting a thread asking about take up 2xalchemy, and swearing in the same thread that I wouldn't take up inscription, I have taken up inscription, and I have some questions I thought I'd post for the good people here.

    1) Would people be willing to share which glyphs are the most popular on their server and/or which they get the most for? I've been abusing the poor Undermine Journal servers for my own realm, looking at the recent history of glyph sales, prices, see who the other big players in the market are, etc.

    2) Do people find a cycle to glyph sales that perhaps isn't the same for other items? When I post cut jewels for sale, I usually post a batch around 2pm server, and then again at 6pm, both on 12 hours sets. I find this gets me a batch of sales from the afternoon before getting undercut, and then another batch in the evening. I thought that before experimenting with glyph sales in the same way, I'd ask here for any cycle suggestions.

    Thanks in advance!

the ink of the sea glyphs are strong and steady... and Adder's tongue/Lichbloom/Icethorn is fairly cheap on most AH's..

as for cycles, not soo much anymore, before 4.0.1, yes, definitely, now, not so much,..

I have abbot 200 types of glyphs up at any one time. On my server there are probably 4-5 big glyph sellers. Over time I have realized that there is little point trying to out smart them - some of them probably read this forum and know all the tricks that I do. Yes you can spend ages looking for the optimal time to post - but your other competitors are smart too and they will modify their posting routines.

I just have a stack of 10 of each glyph and post them one at a time whenever I am able - usually 2-3 time a day. Some days the sales are great - some days are slow. But the GPH of constantly analyzing when to sell to get the most gold/day just isn't worth it.

One of the glyph sellers routinely buys out the cheap glyphs with minimal glyphs up and then resets the price. This works well for me - I get sales at 120% of the crafting cost - and then get to sell them 6 hours later at the new reset price.

My feeling is the glyph market is now just a slow moving bulk market. You need to optimize your efficiency to make it a worthwhile venture.

With regards to which glyphs sells the best - they are mostly the discoverable glyphs for me. I don't even bother to make most trainable glyphs as their prices are consistenly less than the crafting cost

That'll give you some ideas of which glyphs are commonly used. Personally my Mysales window is all messed up with my video settings right now, but I notice alot of deathknight glyphs are commonly bought.

edit: Has anyone else noticed there isn't much competition on ?

I personally haven't been in the glyph market to notice any type of cycle. All I have been doing is logging on in the evening, collecting the sales from the previous night, cancelling all the other undercut glyphs, crafting the ones needed through TSM, and then reposting. My server doesn't have too much competition, so I don't have to camp the AH too much.

I don't really think there would be a best time to post the auctions though, since there isn't really a time when alot of people are changing specs. I do, however, try to make my posts right after the competition logs off for the night (which ends up being about 9pm server time).

Well, everyone and their brother has a death knight. Pally glyphs also sell very well, since there are way too many of them as well.

As far as analysis and cycles, I have to agree with a lot of what everyone else has been saying here - the time for that has passed. The only viable option is likely to just automate, cash your cheque, then do it again. 4.0.1 was the time for that, now I just keep 2 of everything up - cancel when I log in, repost, restock abut twice a week. If want to optimize it, I'd suggest raising the profit setting in TSM (assuming you are using it, which I would highly recommend). That way you won't restock the glyphs that don't make you as much money.

The only semi cycle i see is a very small peak in sales at weekends which apart from more people playing in general i assume is down to more people messing about on alts at the weekends too.
