    DE'ing Epic Engineering Helms?

I apologize if this has been discussed already, but I did search a bit and didn't find anything on it.

I recently took up Enchanting on my main and have of course been trying to make some gold with it (which isn't hard at all, just trying maximize profits )

Anyway, my other profession is Alchemy and I'm really annoyed with myself for not picking up Enchanting earlier so I could have stocked up on some cheap s.

But this got me thinking of other cheap epics that might be worth DE'ing and the Epic Eng Helms came to mind, for example requires maybe 1.2-1.4k worth of mats + 1 while Crystals go for 2.3k+ on my server. (HC's go much quicker and easier now, so I don't think obtaining the orbs will be an issue)

While I have no intention of dropping Alch for Eng, this was just a thought I had and felt like putting out there

I too have wondered this, but don't have the combination of professions. Would be very interested to find the answer as my second profession on the Engineer is Mining which can easily be dropped if this is viable.

I'm doing this on my realm. The crystals go for 3k and I can make the goggles for 1.4k. Don't have much time to run heroics but I've got a small stockpile of chaos orbs currently banked. I doubt this would be worth dropping an existing prof for as eng can be a pain to make decent profits from other than a few pets and the bike. Only reason I still have it is because i picked it back when I started playing in vanilla and probably couldn't live w/o my portable bank/mailbox at this point.

A friend of mine does this, he claims he makes good gold on it, though I haven't crunched numbers or looked into it much despite putting him on to it. I know truegold goes for about 800g on our realm and the crystals 2-3k

I believe we have a post about it around here somewhere...

Unless you're someone that constantly runs heroics though, it's not worth trying to farm heroics just to do this though. My main is an enchanted/engineer, and when I hit 85 I had the hardest time queueing as a dps and running heroics just to get one orb for my own goggles to actually use.

If you're like me and try to avoid doing heroics, you can always do weekly arena just for points and then buy the wands for an easy maelstrom crystal.

Its a slightly strange profession combination but i did manage to find an engineer/enchanter on my server with 5 spare orbs. Luckily engineers don't really have anything of worth to make with their orbs so are willing to let them go cheap. I got 5 helms crafted and disenchanted for 1000G, mats for each helm cost me around 1300-1400G and each shard sold for 2300G.

It's a good thing that my main is an engineer/enchanter! Truegold is a pain though, I was saving them for my alchemy mount.

If, by chance, you have the orbs already, then yes, I've done it, and it's damn profitable. If you don't however, it's absolutely miserable GPH: having to run a heroic and not even knowing if you're going to get the orb is a waste of time.
