    Epic Gems...or not

Hi everyone, my debut post here after observing for some time the good info this community is sharing - good job to all.

My open question (feel free to shoot it down) is this -Will there be any Cata epic gems?

Of course there will, you say....so allow me to elaborate. Blizz have clearly stated that the profession bonuses will be approximately equal. So, Enchanting gives ring enchant at +40 (insert stat) and Alchemy gets +80 (stat) from raid flask use, or from its 'perma-flask' etc. JC gains are from comparing the best gem that everyone can use with the special cut for JC only (chimera eye). So, if everyone can have gems at +40 stat, and a JC can have 3 chimera eye cuts at +67, this gives the +81 profession bonus.

So...if suddenly everyone can have cata epic gems with a (say) +50 stat, where does that leave the JC profession bonus.? It's new benefit is now only +17 x3 = +51

Maybe my brain structure is warped, but i also see pyrite ore as interesting....pyrite is of course also known as Fool's Gold....maybe a nice Blizz pun there, they do like to make them don't they.?

Anyways, i have a stock of JC tokens and a wagon full of pyrite ore, but can't help asking myself "Why.?" so now I'm asking you guys for your thoughts....or at least to point out what i have missed in my profession comparison.

    Thanks for reading,
Standing in the line, waiting for ass to get kicked,

I think a lot of our sentiments can be summed up here: http://consortium.stormspire.net/sho...ving-JC-tokens

When the epic gems were introduced in patch 3.2, I believe they simply buffed the dragon's eyes to keep the profession bonus the same.

This is correct information and something that would likely be done when epic gems come out.

Engineers are somewhat concerened as well regarding thier cogwheels because those would need to be updated. The helm they craft with the cogwheel socket would also not be as good a helm as the next raid tiers so I expect Blizzard to put in a new recipe sometime in the future that modifies an ordinary helm to have a cogwheel socket.

They won't. The continuing perk from engineering is the and other glove enchants, not the helm. The helm, like the alchemy trinkets, are just a bonus that will not be relevant after another tier of gear.

My issue was more with cogwheels as they never did that before. Making them useless after one tier of rading would surprise me.
