    Seperating Glyphs by sales rather than class increases profits

    Just like the title says I have increased my inscription profits massively just by changing how I post glyphs. I used to post all glyphs spread across 3 bank alts based on class. This was a very time-consuming process to do and emptying 3 full mailboxes every day was a PITA.

    To try and fix this I exported my MYSales data into Excel and then sorted my glyphs based on numbers sold. Once I had all my glyphs ranked the "fun" part started. I cleared out my APM groups and started adding them one by one to each alt. On the first bank alt I put all of my highest selling glyphs and left one bag spot open. I did the same for the second alt and then the last one got all the bottom sellers.

    Once I had my new groups sorted out I would post multiple times per day with my first alt. These had a 12-hr duration so I could cycle through them quick. The next alt would get posted once/twice a day depending on my time with a 24 hour duration. The last alt was being posted every other day for 48 hours but not much was selling so I've pretty much stopped even logging into him.

    At the start of Jan when I did this I had 119k on the first bank alt. This is now sitting at 267k. The beauty of this system is that most other people are separating by class still. This means that every time you log in and post your top sellers they are going to have to go through and post on all their alts again. I was hating glyphs before making this change and now it just feels like free gold.

    It would probably be possible to automate the creation of the groups by importing the ItemID's of each glyph into Excel but I took the quicker route and spent 20min manually doing it.

    The new addon, TradeSkillMaster, also has some cool features which accommodate this. It allows you to restock your inventory based on certain profit thresholds, and there is an option to cancel certain "groups" only. You just type the name of the group you wish to cancel in the "Cancel -ALL" tab on the AH panel. So, if you put your glyphs into different groups based on sales/profit, you could probably accomplish the same thing on ONE alt, which would also mean you wouldn't miss out on anything by not logging into your 48hr alt.

    It also saves you the hassle of relogging multiple times.

    Very interesting. You essentially partitioned your glyph sales between toons by how popular they were. That allowed you to post your glyphs on different cycles - popular glyphs were posted more often to combat competition, and less popular glyphs were posted less often.

    I don't think I've ever read of someone doing that. Definitely a cool method to increase efficiency.

    This was quite common mid-late wrath for any serious scribe, or another similar method was simply to only sell the best sellers. This was the tactic i followed where i sorted my glyphs worth making, separated the trash ones into their own QA group and gave a little time to sell them at any price above vendor value than after that time was over i just vendored them, leaving only the good sellers to play with.

    I am slowing moving towards this end now, with me only being back in the situation of having a load of trash glyphs lying around because i made 40 of each glyph before the mats changed from 1 ink to 3.
    I'm currently in the sell off at any price above cost, then i will move soon to any price above vendor then when i get bored of shuffling them around i will simply vendor any trash left.

    Was doing this when I was monkeying with glyphs. Populars got all my attention, then super hot glyphs were on another alt, and lesser sold glyphs would be maintained on another alt. Basically like any good retailer, I would make sure I was stocked up on the main poster with the best sellers, and then bargain bin the bads. This made for incredibly easy inventory management because I could see at a glance exactly what was out of stock. I went by memory for the bad glyphs, which was really easy. I remember I accidentaly made like 40 of the Rend glyphs and I carried those for like a year until patch 4.0.1. (I hit Create All on accident and walked away).

    I had to sanitize the data first. I used textpad for this. I opened the file and grep'd out Glyph~`of to filter it for glyphs. I saved the search results as glyph.txt and then in that file did a find/replace of the following:

    ^S -> ^
    ~` -> (space)
    ^N -> ^

    Saved the fixed file and then opened the file with excel using ^ to seperate columns. After finishing

    "^1^SGlyph~`of~`Justice^N468248^SAlan^S11/17/10~`23:18:39^^", -- [8]

    becomes

    "^1^Glyph of Justice^468248^Alan^11/17/10 23:18:39^^", -- [8]

    Once its in excel you can manipulate the data however you want

    I thought of this many times, but never did it. You can hold every glyph in the game on 1 character with full Scribe bags, so I didn't see the point in logging on and off to 3 separate characters when it was achievable by 1 guy. If you have all 11 bag slots with the 32 slot bags, that's 352 slots, not including the actual bank and primary 16 slot bag. Last I checked there were like 350~ glyphs in the game, and only about 250 of those are profitable.

    In the end, you can do it this way, but it's very time consuming and you can get the same sales numbers from doing normal goblin tactics.

    Personally I'd rather log on/off and post on different characters than worry about moving everything into/out of banks and running back and forth to do it everytime I wanted to post.

    It'd be so cool to have MySales have built-in export functionality for Excel... I keep coming back to MySales and the idea of building on it...
