    Drop Mining now?

    I need advise guys.

My main its a JC(505)/Mining(486) and ive heard a lot about the synergy between JC and Alchemy, also the nice profits that a lot of alchemists are doing right now. I had Mining to be part of the gathering rush of the launch on Cata, but now the craze has fade a little so I'm pondering.

Sadly, im getting a lot of gold by using the Smelting option of mining, lots of ores are posted on the AH mindlessly and by turning them to bars im getting a lot of free gold in return.

    What to do?

P.S. my other alts are real low on lvl to make them my alchemist or miner.

I'm this close to dropping herb on my gatherer who's herb/mining, I'm only keeping mining purely for smelting.

I have a slight variation on your question, but would like to hop on board so perhaps we can both find some useful suggestions.

I have a leveling alt (level 65), with JC(395)/Mining(388). I have three other miners and was wondering what would work best with JC?

This is my only JC, so I am trying to level as fast as possible. I actually find the mining slowing my leveling down. I have a 450 herbalist/alchemist, but from what I gather, having two Alchemists is not a bad thing. I'm looking for a long term profit center on this alt.

    Thanks in advance

If you have mining on an alt 80+ toon then it makes sense to drop mining on your main. Then again are you trying to min/max your main's profession for progressive raiding?

I was considering dropping Mining on my 85 paladin, but he's my alt. He's a tank and will more than likely never do anything beyond tanking.

I'm Mining / JC and was thinking going Blacksmithing / JC just so I have a max BS. I already have 2 alchemists, and I literally never farm ore. The only time i farm is to level my mining to max for the stam bonus.

    hmm no, and no.

I dont have another char close to 80 (actually my main its hardly 76) and my goal is purely gold making, there the reason why i need more capped professions.

The problem is that I'm really lazy to lvl up alts (although i have 8 for banking purposes).

@Rorst...its all about in-game goals and pespective. You might drop mining now and pick another profession up just for a specific reason then next patch (so some patch down the road) mining become the best profession again, then your going to drop your crafting and go back to mining? There is so much money one can make. WoW gold does not translate into IRL $$, well unless you sell then which we don't do here in this forum. Use your IRL time wisely. WoW is just a game and ultimately its your IRL resume which you work at is going to pay you bills and pay your mortgage.

WoW have been around for 6 years. I am beginning to wonder how much opportunity cost this game has cost to its subscribers who could have spend his/her time to better themselves through grades/career advancements etc...where the real $/hour is, and not gold/hour.

Personally, I'd never drop mining. The ability to smelt is very valuable and I'm never going back to having to ask others to do it for me.

If I had more than one miner, i'd drop them right away and level other professions. keep mining on your highest alt.

I'd also drop herbalism as I don't like farming and would rather buy from the AH.

I hesitate to recommend to anyone that they drop a profession that they would otherwise not have coverage for. Keep mining - especially if it's making you gold for something as simple as smelting. Once your alt can mine pyrium, then drop it on your main and level something that you can use to make more gold.

    (that's a joke, eh)
