    Vial of the Sands

Its been confirmed from both a GM and a player from mmo-champ that the recipe do drop from Archaeology.

It drops from the common Tol'vir artifact Canopic Jar.

...And just in case anyone was still thinking this might be easy: Tol'vir dig sites only start showing up after 450 Archaeology skill, and then they are mixed in with other continental sites, making progress on their artefacts very slow indeed. Canopic Jars are 1 of 8 common Tol'vir items, so overall the chance of picking one up is likely somewhere around 10%. And then it's not clear that the recipe is guaranteed to be found in each jar - probably not. Finally the recipe is BoP, so the Alchemist themselves needs to grind through (likely) the whole of Archaeology. This Vial is evidently one of those Insane-type pieces of content, intended to keep hardcore players busy 2 years from now...

Its been confirmed that it DOES NOT have 100% drop from the Canopic Jar, still not enough data to say the average drop rate. You most likely need illustrious trained in alchemy to find it aswell

As one of those hardcore players going for Insane-type content...

I believe the only requirement for the item to drop from the Jar is to be an Alchemist. If you max out your Archaeology first and have Alchemy, you may have a chance for this item to drop. If you think that maxing your Archaeology is doesn't sound like such a bad requirement, let me break down the extreme rarity and time investment of this item:

The first requirement to have a shot at the Tol'vir common item is to have Arch of 450. That's about a 20 hour investment in and of itself. From that point, the Tol'vir fragments only drop in the Uldum zone. With only 4 dig sites on the entirety of the Kalimdor continent, you have an extremely low chance to have a dig site up in Uldum at any given time. The Tol'vir artifacts all require a minimum of 45 fragments to craft. That is a minimum of 5 dig site spawns in Uldum per common, unless you get lucky with drops, as each counts as 12 fragments. If you are farming the continent efficiently, you can assume around 1-2 dig sites in Uldum per hour. That is a minimum of 3 hours or so per common item that you solve. If you get lucky/unlucky, you may get one of the rare items instead of a common, which require 150 fragments to craft. That easily sets you back another 8-10 hours of farming. Consider that there are 6 different common Tol'vir items and 6 more rare items and you will begin to see how bleak the outlook is just to get a to drop. Add to that the fact that the recipe is not a 100% drop from the jar...

This is easily one of the most ridiculous pursuits to undertake. I've already gathered all of the mats and am around 36 hours into farming for the recipe.

According to today's hotfix patch notes, the mount from Vial of the Sands is no longer Bind on Pickup.

Whoever finds this first on his/her server could make a filthy fortune from commission alone. Reminds me of the chopper, but much harder to find.

So if you come up on this recipe in the next months - you should definitly learn Alchemy with that character?

Presumably the recipe only drops for Alchemists, which is the way most newer dropped recipes work. However, since most of the best Archaeology rewards are bound to account, any existing Alchemist character you have should be the one to develop Archaeology.

I think, if the first poster has his facts straight then it is only possible to get the recipe if you already have alchemy

I really wish they would make this bound to account. I really wish all BOP patterns were BOA, to be honest.
