How to properly deal with trade tards.

Sometimes, you get the ignorant fool that thinks they know something you don't, tossing ALL CAPS RANTS in your face about how your prices are outrageous (when really, they may actually be below average.)

I've been on a roll this week with my sales, so it's been an over all good week. Most people who have contacted me about my wares have been polite and understanding, even when I turn down their offers. Yea, there may have been the one or two people who just seemed ignorant about my product, but they didn't go out of their way to call me a fool. Until today.

It's these sort of people who really tick me off, but I don't lose my cool. Rather, I slap a bunch of confidence-boosted knowledge in their faces to not only shut them down and let them know who they are dealing with, but to put them in their place and make them think twice before they shove this attitude in someone else's face later on.

Remember. Don't make yourself out to be a complete dick. Stay calm and composed, and armed with sources and proof. You don't want the person spreading bad rep about you. Typically, you want to just ignore the situation, but if you feel the need to respond to a nasty person, like I did, this is how you do it properly IMHO:

I'm lost. You talk to them, Tim? I ignore them out of habit. If you talk with them the conversation can go either way, and because I know I'm better than them I just /ignore with Ignore More - The addon of champions. They can send tells and you never see them, they will get no reply, no fuss, no muss. Wash your hands of these unwashed masses forever. Should they ever reach my level of awesome (which will take at least 3 more lifetimes) I may consider removing them. There's nothing they can teach me except maybe a new meme.

Oh, no no. Trust me, they won't be doing business with me any longer. There is no profit potential from this person. But I like to send them off with a bad taste in their mouth (the taste that is only bad to those who are ignorant and biased) before tossing their name on my, what I have called, 'Don't do business with these people' list.
I generally try not to put people on my ignore list because it's bad for business. But people like the one I encountered today are bad for business if they are left allowed to run wild, or attempt to talk to me in the future, wasting my time.

Of course, if you aren't going to at least try showing them why they are wrong, then they aren't worth dealing with to begin with.

If he had have been a lot calmer about his approach, I would have tried reasoning with him why he was wrong, and hopefully releasing this ignoramus back into the wild equipped with some knowledge.

If people are idiots I just /ignore them. It saves a lot of time.

I might go so far as to point out that the market value of the item I am selling is X and I'm actually offering a good deal. I might go so far as to link them somewhere that shows the item is a lot better than they claim it is.

there is no way in frozen hell I am ever letting anyone know how much gold I make, that just justifies their belief that I'm charging outrageous prices and they'll screen out the parts I want them to understand and focus on the price.

that conversation with me would go:

    him: how much for X?
    me: 14k
    him LOL it's only 476ilvl!! wtf!!!eleven
me: it's 2nd BiS [link] and the average price is actually 18k [link]
me: I'm charging 14k, that's 4k cheaper than it should be.

If I get called a dumb derp or worse after that they get /ignored.

Oh, I agree. People might tend to associate your net worth with how likely you are to overcharge.
And I agree that an approach of proving that your price is fair could help persuade them to agree on your price.

For this particular item, I have experienced that 'it's only ilvl 476' excuse since the 2nd or 3rd faire since MoP. And everytime I give them sources about how great the trinket ACTUALLY is. It's been successful in some cases.

But, because his attitude was outlandish out of the gate, and my next action was to ignore them, I wanted to make sure they knew they were wrong. Plus he had his cool cruise control on to begin with. That was a bad sign from the get go.

That is actually pretty deep and accurate. Expensive is completely subjective.

Something being too expensive for someone is fine, the problem is when after expressing that sentiment they don't take responsibility for their half of the situation.

I'm not going to go out and buy a top of the line Lexus any time soon (it's too expensive for me).... but neither am I going to rock up to a dealership and call the sales guy a wanker.

Yea, I had someone try to get a Niuzao trinket from me for way under AH price earlier this evening. Their reasoning was that patch 5.2 was coming out soon, which would make the trinkets obsolete. My response was that alts will still need them... best trinket they can get as soon as they hit lvl 90, helping them get into LFR. The guy didn't respond, so I'm he realized I wasn't an idiot and called his bluff.

In most cases, though, I just ignore them when they start trying to tell me why my prices are too high. Not to mention, 9 out of 10 times, I end up selling that item within an hour or two at the AH price.

For the Niuzao trinket, I did sell it shortly after, at AH price. I think it was like 15 mins or so later that it sold.

Half the time, I wonder if these people are trying to buy items for really cheap, so they can turn around and re-sell at a profit. It wouldn't surprise me one bit.

Exactly... biggest issue is that some people who play WoW feel they are entitled to various items, regardless of how much it normally costs. They feel they deserve it since they pay to play the game. They can't get it through their head that the people they are dealing with also pay to play the game and play a different way... they play to make gold. This whole "I deserve X just because" is pathetic sometimes.

As a side note, I started up my GDKP runs again on my server... so far, after 4 weeks (every Friday night), my run has already gotten to the point of doing 6/6 MSV, including heroic Stone Guards. Not bad for a 25-man pug... especially when 25man pugs are nearly non-existent and tough to manage. But, I have had the occasional person come on a run and basically act like they deserve to get something because they came, despite the fact that it's a GDKP run. I've also had people almost demand that I bring them, just because they feel they deserve to come. That attitude gets an immediate NO from me.

No offense, but I usually just ignore them right away. No point arguing with someone who will not bring in any profit for you, now or later.
