Buying a Level 25 Guild (or any for that matter)

Let's bring this topic up to date, mostly because I'm looking to purchase a guild or two for some alts to store materials and need some feedback from the community as to what you've encountered when buying, what the normal practices are, and how you've resolved any logistical issues. Rep will be granted for excellent input.

The best tip I have is if you realize that you are going to have to make a guild from scratch, make as many as you have slots available, and do it all at once. I spammed in trade for an hour at a busy time of night and nobody would sign a charter for 100g/sig. Once I was offering a quick 500g for signing 5 charters I filled a party in seconds. It took about 10 minutes to log in, turn in charters and distribute the gold, but after making the 5 guilds I bought 3 tabs and sold one for 2500g the next day. It is also really nice to have a guild bank solely for ink, one for herbs, one for, well, you get it. Hope this helps!

I appreciate your thoughts Chakill, but I'm looking towards discussing the purchase of established and leveled guilds. The reason to purchase a 25 is that the value of the guild will be retained once you are done with it. Additionally you can always mass recruit casuals over time to assist with any cash flow needs (if that's your thing). Myself I would like additional 25s for several reasons:

    1) Deflation risk is limited now that we're into MOP a little further and they are going cheaper, level cap 25 is most desired for resale purposes
    2) 7 bank tabs should be immediately available thanks to them all being over level 5
    3) Perks for my characters that will be managing the guilds. Since they are all 90 crafters, I don't want them to be penalized in JP/HP gathering, Bountiful Bags, rep points, and Mass Res is used quite often in Pugs.
    4) I've grown tired of bouncing my cloths and ores back and forth in the mail system and want a place I can just treat as my own extra bank. I could fill a 7 tab guild bank right now with the amount of bolts I have.

    Other thoughts?

You may well already be aware of this, but it's much much harder to find a guild with the full 8 tabs rather than 7. Especially now the Stay Classy achi requires Pandas as well. I'd say that if you find one for a vaguely reasonable price give it some serious consideration over a"normal" level 25 guild.

I bought a lvl 25 guild for 35k some months ago and the cashflow from the members I've inivted has already exceeded my investment. I'm really happy with all the advantages a lvl 25 guild gives to u. (as u mentioned Zerohour) I think I will invest in lvl 25 guilds also on other servers.. we will see.

I never had any luck buying a guild. The last level 25 guild I saw for sale was asking 400k, which was just far and away too much cash for only 7 tabs.

On a medium population server, I can definitely say that it's much more difficult to gather the people necessary to create a guild and level it from scratch, so they generally are more expensive. Also, Blizzard has gone so far down the path of making this game all about individual-oriented play styles rather than group-oriented, you rarely see several smaller guilds merging to form more productive larger guilds because of the lack of trust and immediate benefits.

Personally, I find that it's easier to have a second account (RAF makes this awesome) that you can put all your banker mules on. If you level several characters via RAF on the second account, you should be very close to having a level 5 guild which I think will still allow you to get tab vouchers for several other bank guilds you create.

    Edit to add:

I find there's no immediate value to having a level 25 guild. Yes, you can sell it back off to recoup your money and possibly make a profit if you get it cheap enough, but in my view it's more economical to simply eat the loss of starting a guild and buying all the tabs (what is that, 10k gold per guild?). You eat the entire loss for the tabs, but unless you can buy a level 25 guild for less than 30k, I would rather eat a small one time loss rather than invest 5-10x that much for a long time and no guarantee of a return.

I can take 50k starting capital buy the tabs for 10k, then double the remaining 40k in a month OR I can buy the level 25 guild for 50k and still be out 50k at the end of the month and only have an additional bank tab to show for it. Time is Money!

Zero - I bought a level 16 guild for 18k right at the start of MoP for this exact reason. As a goblin myself this was the absolute best investment I have ever made.

It has made crafting on my 5 different alts so much easier and quicker.

The guild was level 25 within the first week of purchasing it and in 2 months I made my original 18k investment back through the gold perk and is now setting on 40k (20k pure profit from just the guild bank).

If you plan on buying a guild bank I would not focus on the level of it. Its incredible easy to level now and with Addons liker Super Guild Invite I turn this bad boy on while I'm sitting around crafting and spam invite people it finds unguilded. I have 940 members in the guild with about 30-40 avg online at any given time.

I have the ranks set so the guild bank is completely unaccessible or even view-able and I set back and enjoy the benefits and the profits.

If your a goblin... and you don't have a guild bank of your own that is max level.. you are doing something wrong!

    Work smarter not harder!

Personally I have 2 level 25 guild with 7 tabs, 1 level 8 with 7 tabs and 1 level 2 guild on Illidan. the transaction all went smoothly, the price for level 25 is around 70k each, all comes with full Heirloom. personally for storage purposes I would rather have a couple level 5+ guild with 7 tabs as those are only around 15k-20k, I put all my crafter(around 20 of them) in the level 25 guild filled with all the material needed for crafting, the level 8 guild comes with 7 tabs of dust/essence, uncut rare/uncommon gems and about 2 tabs of serpents eyes for banker/seller to post them in AH couple times a day. the last guild is for JC/Transmuter to store cut rares, 450 BOE jewelery and Truegold/Titansteel/Arcanite Bar. Back to the issue of purchasing a level 25 guild, I would rather go for a pretty much dead guild to avoid any dispute against the guild members. for above reasons, I haven't made a penny of my investment back from cash flow but I am fine with that, since I purchased those guilds for extra storage space and some guild perks, not for flipping them. All in all, I would say 55k-75k for a level 25 guild depending on the achievements, active members and number of unlocked tabs.

Ok, let me clarify because this is turning into anecdotes about having bought one but not answering the question in the spirit of the conversation. Zhouwei157, you touched on it somewhat, but let's expand this a little further. I'm not looking for flipping, I'm looking for buying process advice for myself and everyone else.

    1) When you purchased the guild, did you take the invite to the guild, check the seller's rank in the guild and find they weren't the GM?
    2) Did anyone get scammed in this process? What was the result?
    3) When you transferred the gold to the seller, how did you do it? Half up front, take ownership, give the last half? All up front? Or take ownership and then pay? Wondering what the norm is here since this is an unsupported transaction.

    For me:
Step 1: Located Seller and looked them up on the armory to verify they were in fact the GM. I personally did not want to buy from a level one toon. To much risk here for someone to have complete amnesty.

Step 2: GM invited me to the guild. I looked over the guild bank, check the tabs, checked the cheeves (these were important to me), checked roster and how much gold the was being deposited weekly from the gold perk.

Step 3: Upon validating everything I paid the GM half of the sale price. Upon the GM getting half he promoted me to GM and I paid in the remaining amount.

Step 4: Went though and immediately change the ranks and demoted anyone that needed it.

Every transaction is different but i found that if both parties accept a decent amount of risk then the over all transaction is probably legit and will work out in a positive. manor.
