    Dealing with false accusations

I had an odd experience that shook me up particularly coupled with one a month or so ago.

Background - Have played WoW since BC. Have 3 accounts. DH also plays. Until MoP started I didn't much that was very focused to earn gold. Before MoP started I decided to be more focused to earn gold and decided the most profitable ways to do it were to have an army of scribes to use make a scroll of wisdom each day for darkmoon cards. I also made sure I had alchemists for living steel. Since MoP came out I've been diligent at getting herbs every day (early on, farmed myself but mostly buy them from the AH). At this point I have 13 scribes and 12 alchemists that use daily CDs. I started MoP with 100k in gold. After Darkmoon Fair 1 and the sales following it I got to a million. I'm now up to 1.8 million with most of it coming from Darkmoon trinkets. I had about 20 for the first fair and made over 40 for the 2nd fair and I've made almost 30 so far for this fair.

I mostly sell the trinkets from one of my banks alt. I've occasionally sold from another alt but the last 6 weeks or so have sold mostly from this one alt. At any given time I will usually have 1 of each of the 5 trinkets in the AH.

This evening I logged on and was doing some stuff in the bank when I noticed a whisper that said I had duped trinkets in the AH. I looked up the chat window and saw the person had first asked me how a level 65 had so many trinkets (my alt is actually level 85). He then corrected himself to say level 85. I hadn't noticed the whisper. But, then he said I must have duped the trinkets. I was calm and told him that I have alts who are scribes and that I used them to make darkmoon cards every day which is why I had trinkets. He said he was going to report me for duping and see what happened. He also said something like "that guild during Cata sold duped things." I didn't know what he meant by "that guild" as he didn't say which guild he was talking about so I asked him which guild? Then I told him that if he wanted to report me to go ahead because Blizzard could see what I do on my account and could see that I buy herbs every day and that my alts make the cards. At that point, he apologized and then chatted with me briefly about the price of trinkets. (I had the idea he wanted to buy one of the trinkets for something a bit below market price).

It shook me up for a couple of reasons. I know I haven't done anything remotely improper. I just have a lot of alts who make cards. So I would assume that if anyone did assume that there was something strange about me having so many trinkets and put in a ticket that Blizzard could quickly look at see that I got my trinkets honestly. Still, it bothered me to be accused.

The other thing is that it hadn't occurred to me that anyone would think it strange that I have a lot of trinkets. I'm not the only trinket seller, but I do list more auctions than anyone else. It never occurred to me that anyone would think the trinkets weren't legitimate. Should I break up my sales among my alts?

Which brings me to the guild issue. If "that guild" meant the guild my alt was in that was an absurd accusation as DH and I only did very casual selling during Cata. We mostly just sold stuff we picked up questing or doing some herbing/mining, that kind of thing. Nothing of high value at all. My alts who sell stuff are all in my alt guild which is really a 2 person guild of the alts of my DH and me. I do have a few characters who are in a large guild but I don't sell much with them since they don't have access to a guild bank. So I could break up the trinkets among my alts, but they are in the same guild as the one doing the selling now so I don't think it would be hard to figure out they are my alts. I guess I could set up one or more other guilds that I could use for selling.

Anyway, when this guy said "that guild" sold dupes during Cata he was either just making stuff up or has our guild confused with some other guild. The name was have for the guild is sort of unique as it is an acronym but I guess there could be some other guild out there with a similar name.

And that brings up the other strange thing that happened a couple of months ago. I was on 2 of my alts, one of which was level 90 and was there to fly around my level 88 who was questing (they are on different accounts). I wasn't multi-boxing but was just having the 90 use a 2 person mount to fly around the level 88, occasionally helping to fight if the 88 got into trouble (I would usually ungroup them before the 88 did questing so the 88 wouldn't lose XP being grouped with a 90). So, I would guess to a third person looking at it they looked sort of strange as I would move the 90 somewhere then move the 88 and if the 90 would help out on a fight the 88 would just stand there.

Anyway, suddenly in general chat, someone said that everyone from my guild was a bot and he was going to report us. I responded in chat that I most certainly wasn't a bot. He said that we were botting as we were make strange movements and didn't respond to people talking to us. (I hadn't noticed any whispers but I might not have). He said he was going to report us. I told him to go ahead. Neither of the alts I was playing even had gathering professions so I wasn't worried about it at all. He then said he had seen people from my guild before and they were all out there botting. Now this was just bizarre since the guild is my DH and I and we each have one herb/miner each and we don't even play them that often since we mostly buy our herbs/ore from the AH rather than farm it ourselves. So he either was just making stuff up or....he had our guild confused with someone else. Now I'm wondering if our little guild maybe has a name similar to some guild that isn't on the up and up and wonder if I should pay the money to change the guild name?

Or should I just ignore all this?

Definitely ignore it. There is no way you're going to get in trouble for things you're not doing and I doubt you'd want to have anything to do with the idiots who would report you erroneously. Carry on with what you're doing and completely ignore them!

I had a similar experience to this. On my previous server I had a heated competition with another goblin on and he began to publicly accuse me of being a bot. He went out of his way anytime I basically said anything in trade to try and sabotage my sales and or purchase ads. To this day I still don't know if he legitimately thought I botted the AH or if he merely was trying to rile me up and smear my name as a competitor. What really pained me is I absolutely hate being wrongfully accused of anything, it's not something that I can normally let roll off my shoulders very easily and I frequently got into it with the guy publicly. In the end, as many times as I was accused of doing misdeeds by him or others he had convinced, Blizz never banned, suspended, or even sent me a warning because I wasn't doing anything wrong. I eventually had to just let it go and move on, and I suggest you do the same. Trying to argue when someone spouts lies about you in WoW really only serves to make you look more guilty sadly. And it sounds like you aren't either, you just have a lot of time to play and plenty of determination and Blizz will never ban you for that.

    P.S. Mox if you're reading this...hi.

Don't worry about it. You haven't done anything wrong and the issue will go nowhere.

Ignore it and move on or you'll just be going around in circles.

Ha! Try getting into the transmog market.

I was once contacted by a player a couple years ago who wanted a set of pants at a cheaper price. I, of course, politely said no. They immediately claimed that I had "talked to a guildmate and told them they were 1k cheaper", which is a load of crap because I rarely chat with people outside my guild, and I would have remembered that conversation :P

Well, I informed them that the conversation with their guildmate never took place, and they're being lied to. WHOA MAN! This person flew off the deep end. They went on a crusade with their whole guild in trade chat. 10+ people and an army of alts claimed I was a hacker that "hacked accounts and stole the gear" and that I "sell gold". Yeah sure, I'm a pro at targeting those level 40's that are LOADED with BOE greens

Either way I was pretty pissed at the fact they were maliciously slandering me. Being called a hacker and gold seller is a pretty serious accusation, and I'll admit I was worried that the dumber people on the server would run with it. I ended up following Blizzard's own advice and immediately ignoring anyone who whispered me, even in a joking manner. I reported the offenders for spam and language whenever I saw them talking in trade about me. Curiously, all of those players have disappeared and their guild died.

I'd worry more about your public image to the realm than potential issues with Blizzard.

If I had a nickel for every person that accused me of being a bot while on my bank alt these last few years...
When people do that I just tell them that I'm Skynet, the most advanced wow bot ever made, and that gold selling was my stepping stone to world domination.

Ignore them. What can they do? Report you? Even if Blizzard investigated you, if you're legit, they won't touch you.
These people aren't worth your time.

I was a lot younger when this was happening to me, I wish I had your wisdom back then.

I usually just ask them what they do to enjoy the game and then state that I enjoy participating in the markets so my profession choices reflect that.

Also, multiboxing outside of PVP is not against the TOS and is considered a legitimate playstyle. I state this and follow it with anymore innacurate and innapropriate accusations will be met with a report for defimation of character and that is against the TOS.

I would never pay real money to change a guild name ...no matter what.

Just view it like hate mail.
    People are jealous.
I have a lot of /played time and millions of gold on a small server, some people say I am a **** because I sell stuff.
I look at it like this my hobby, this is what I rush home to do.
    I don't raid.
So making gold on two accounts is how I have fun.

Not everyone likes me...I have few friends on my server.

    So I get hate mail.

And yes I put people on ignore who just want free stuff all the time.

Don't toy with the guy and say you are duping, don't even reply. I put them on ignore generally when they threaten me with anything.
