To be fair, though, @Aeg , nobody does those dailies anymore. Is sort of a fun brain-exercise, but my experience tells me that a lot of gold goes into levelling-alts. For those folks who don't monetize their professions, they're frequently pretty poor.

At this point, it's safe to say that we don't take out more than goes in. Were that the case, the game economy would have fallen by now. There does, however, remain an income disparity, which is affected by many things. I feel that things are in a good place now. I can't imagine the game maintaining balance if Cata->MoP follows the Wrath->Cata inflation model.
Remember folks, if you're not making gold - I got a name for you - Customer.

+Rep doesn't buy me beer, but it sure gives me a reason to have one - if you learned something new or thought about something differently, let's celebrate!

Absolutely. I don't see how even blizzard can deny that inflation got way out of hand this expansion. Just look at the way they kept trying to nerf the JC shuffle - clearly they recognize they screwed something up. Perhaps we should draft something up to send to them with suggestions...

Like in the beta when we told them that 9g gems would lead to massive inflation? Or warning that double punch of changing the mats and disabling the ink trader a month before the expansion would lead to the largest wealth transfer in the history of the game (Glyphmas)? We can bang the alarm bells all we want, but it's useless with devs hold a forum and say they are pleased with the way the economy is working. Remember this is the same company that designed the Diablo 2 economy...

Touché. Wasn't in the Cataclysm beta . Hey a guy can dream, can't he?

Just to make sure we're all talking about the same thing...

Things that add gold would be anything where gold appears and is not transferred from another player, such as:
    - Completing a quest
    - Looting gold from a corpse
    - Selling something to a vendor

Things that remove gold would be anything where gold disappears and is not transferred to another player, such as:
    - Repairs
    - Buying from a vendor
    - AH fees (deposit or % of sales)
    - Mail fees
    - Indirectly, you could argue that any player that quits the game also removes currency from the game

Given that as the foundation, you would need to measure which of those two columns is greater for you. You can argue that currency that is horded is effectively removed from the economy. However, the truth is, it's more like very slow moving money until it hits one of those two columns. I think it's safe to say that anyone doing any reasonable amount of auctioneering is going to be hard-pressed to be a net addition to the economy. Unless you are doing a lot of dailies and picking up a lot of stuff to vendor, you're almost certainly causing more money to be removed through AH fees.

Those of us that do the shuffle remove even more! If you buy ore on the AH, 5% of what you spend is removed from the game. You prospect. You buy mats from a vendor to turn the uncommons into something you can DE. All that money is removed from the game. You probably send stuff around to other toons to DE or transmute. More gold removed due to mail fees. You buy enchanting scrolls (vendor remove) or stuff on the AH to make bags/transmute (AH fee remove). You post all your gems, enchants, bags and whatever else, donating 5% of your take back to the game help fight inflation. The only possible place you bring gold back into the game is if you vendor anything (like zephyrite).

Pretty sure I am a gold sink machine with all the firelands cloaks I disenchant.
