Question New to Goldmaking - Where to start?

This is A LOT of information about there about making gold. I was wondering if there was a good resource on the subject for a beginner, something that introduces the basic strategies (i.e. farming, playing the AH, crafting, etc.) or something that clears up the lingo behind it all. Some threads I'm reading make me feel like I walked into a foreign country and nobody is speaking English.

I'm sure there's something like that around here, but most of why I find is pretty specialized and assumes a general knowledge already.

Thanks for any help you guys could give!

I'd recommend looking at the addons and some of the ideas in the 1001 gold making tips 1001 Gold Tips - Add Yours! that is located at the top under guides and resources. It gives you good adds on to use as well as some easy tips. Also the AH gold guide http://stormspire.net/consortium-qua...old-guide.html would be another good one to use for ideas of what to buy on the Auction House.

Rob, no doubt these forums can seem a little overwhelming at first, especially if you're new to gold making. But welcome!

It might help some of us if you shared a little about your "resources". In other words - what toons do you have, what level are they, what professions are they, about how much liquid gold do you have right now, and how much time do you have to devote to gold making?

With that information, we could provide a more focused approach for you. With that being said, here are some basic tips....and to echo what @mediamixerj stated, checkout those links he provided.

    1) The "shuffle" is arguably the "gold standard" right now in terms of gold making. In other words, acquiring raw materials (usually Ore, but technically could be any raw material), and processing it into something ELSE. For example, buying a few stacks of , prospecting it (using your Jewelcrafter) into uncut gems. Then, where you go from here depends on a lot of things, and here is where it gets tricky. You can CUT your Rare quality (blue colored) gems into the most valuable cuts, then sell them. You could craft jewelry with the uncommon quality gems (green in color), then sell the BLUE procs of that jewelry, while Disenchanting the green jewelry (using your Enchanter). Then with those enchanting mats - you could craft enchants and sell them, or sell the raw mats.

Below in my signature is a link to a "shuffle" flowchart that can show you what you can make from Ore.

    2) Do you have any valuable recipes or designs? If yes, find out the prices for them, compare it to the materials, and if it's profitable - go ahead and craft a couple and try selling them. People can make a ton of gold selling high iLvl items, sometimes for 50-100% profit, depending on demand.

    3) Use your Cooldowns! Do you have a transmute specced alchemist? Do you have a max level tailor? This link can be COMPLICATED, but basically what it's saying is - Buy , smelt into , transmute into , transmute into = PROFIT!!

    http://stormspire.net/general-discus...sung-hero.html

    4) Don't be afraid to farm / gather. But keep in mind in the middle of an expansion, gathering Ore or Herbs is one of the LOWEST GPH (gold per hour) activities you can do. It is true that it doesn't cost you any gold directly to gather. But it's costing you TIME, which could be spent doing something else.

And keep asking questions - most folks on these forums willingly share their gold making secrets with you if you ask the right questions!

    Rob,

@Namssob is definately right, in that this site has such a ton of information it can be overwhelming at first. I certainly felt the same when I got started. I'm not sure of something exactly as you're asking (but it'd be a good idea to add, to be sure)

The first thing I'd suggest you do is setup a snatch list, either using one of the auction addons or TUJ...TUJ being preferable. I cannot count how many hundreds of thousands or even millions of gold TUJ has made me. I make a fair bit of steady gold flipping MoP blues and epics. Items you should have on your Snatch list is a long thread, but has a list of a great many things you might consider looking for.

Beyond that, how you start depends a great deal on how you are currently set up. How much gold you have, professions you have, server you're on, and so forth. If you could give us a bit more information it'd be quite helpful in pointing you in a certain direction.

I've only recently, 3 months ago, seriously tried to make gold, prior to that it had always been haphazard attempts. After I started to make money, I found forums like this, but I started with one thing, made an efficient routine of it, did it for a while, then found the next thing. Lather, rinse repeat.

    My progression went:
    1) Disenchant search the AH, disenchant, sell mats, profit. That got me up to like 1000g per day.
    2) Found out about deal finder lists and the Ironpaw shuffle. Planted veggies and prowled the AH for super cheap meat/veggies to turn into 100 year soy sauce. Lots of profit.
    3) Realized I was wasting weekly cooldowns for Dreamweave, started making Illusionary bags, which still sell weekly for me at a nice profit.
    4) Investigated crafting, found the interface too hard, so I started to just try things to sell, Iron Dragonlings, Gems, a Sniper Rifle, a couple of the 476 leathers, etc. Good steady profit.
    5) Continued to discover more and more things I could craft to sell. As I made more money, I could keep up a larger stock always posted. My profit has scaled nicely with the larger and larger extent of things on the AH.
    6) Tried out xmog gear and have made amazing profits (1g items that I turned over in 2 days for 4,000g) but at a super slow rate (a few per week).
    7) Tried out Darkmoon cards, but the market for trinkets was abysmal this DMF on my server, so I have a lot of money stuck there that is moving at a snails, pace. I've now halted doing anything new there except make my daily Scroll of Wisdom. If cards become profitable, I can always plow the real money into making a large number of cards at once with all those scrolls.

In my couple of months of doing this. I went from a couple of hundred gold a day when I just played around every now and then to over 10,000g average per day over the last 2 weeks and 8,000g daily over the last month. I have about 350k of items listed on the AH at a time, last week it was 300k. The prior few weeks it was 250k, etc

You can build quickly and steadily, but I'd highly suggest start with one simple thing, then grow into the more complex things.

@tiessa - well done!! Congratulations on working your way up to serious gold-making; you've put a lot of thought and energy into it and it has clearly paid off. Keep posting about your experiences, and ask questions along the way :)

Regarding the Darkmoon cards - at this point in the expansion, they'll certainly be moving much more slowly, but typically the profit is still very good once they do sell. Hang in there. In the meantime, have you explored the market for the offhands (, ) you can craft? Again, these may not sell super-quickly, but offhands are hard to come by and I've found the fans to be a steady sales item thanks to those who are gearing up.

Thanks, all, for the great info and quick responses. I can see I have a lot to learn. I'll give you a breakdown of where I'm at now:

First off, I haven't upgraded to MOP yet (don't laugh!). My b-day comes up in a couple days and I'll get it then. I've been away from the game for a while, so I'm relearning some things in general, too. But I have 2 85s. My main is a Balance/Resto Druid with mining/jewelcrafting both at 525. I have an 85 mage with Alchemy at 355 and herbalism at 374. And then a handful of alt all in the 30s or below. My alts, I think, all have gathering professions, as I read a long time ago that was a good strategy, then just power level profs at max level (which I think I was in the middle of with my mage.) Like I said, I've been away a while.

I have about 40k gold or so total among all my toons, most of it sitting with my main and a bank alt. So I do have a fair amount of starting capital on my main server. But I'm also thinking of starting over on a sever that's actually in my timezone, since I could never get to any raiding with the time difference (or even get very well geared).

As far as addons, I've installed Auctioneer, Auctionator, and TSM (which is super confusing to me right now). I'm not sure if I need all of these, but I like the TSM application that does the auto-scanning of the AH. I'm pretty forgetful about doing things like that on my own. I also have postal, GatherMate2 w/ the data, and Routes. Then Bagnon and SexyMap.

Anyway, probably more info than ya'll need. But that's where I'm at.

Now I'll go dig into some of these links you've posted while I get ready to power level my toons to 90.

    @RobCornell -

It sounds like you have a great foundation for your new start, and with your nest egg you should have plenty of time to research and think and decide what approach works best for you.

If you are comfortable doing so, it may be useful for you to share which server you intend to level on (or which servers interest you as transfer candidates). That way, we can help you target your gold-making strategies a bit. You may well do just fine with that on your own if you are comfortable poking around this site: Check out http://theunderminejournal.com and http://wowuction.com <points up to the tabs>. Each of those will provide some of the information you'll need to make a transfer decision.

You may also want to look at http://wow.realmpop.com in order to get more detailed population information. If you are interested in raiding, then a peek at http://wowprogress.com will also be important.

If all of that information feels overwhelming right now, remember that you have time to think it through, and don't be afraid to ask more questions here.

I wouldnt really pay attention to the time zones when picking out a new server. People from all timezones play on all servers anymore. I would reccomend a high pop server if your looking for raiding. With high pop you will be able to find a guild that fits your timetable.

Could be I just ended up in the wrong guild. I'm on Shu'halo now. It would be easier to stay there, since that's where all my alts are, and there's no way I'd pay to transfer them all. Anyone know anything about Shu'halo's economy?

Also, in regards to addons, do I need all 3 auction addons--Auctionator, Auctioneer, and TSM, or can I get away with just one of them?
