Game client isn't asking for authenticator code?

Very weird, and I can't find anything about it on the blizz forums. But since this morning, I don't get the authenticator request window. It just logs in straight after I typed my password.

When I log on to battle.net site it still asks me for the code, and it still shows my authenticator attached. My first fear was: help I'm hacked again, but since nothing is missing, and all is looking normal.. is it a bug of some sort?

I would rather put in my code every time. I don't like this change one friggen bit. IP Spoofing is easy, and I'm sure the hackers are working on it already.

But, didn't the company that supplies the dongles get hacked anyway, so they're technically all compromised (It could very well be a different company, I just know I read that one of the bigger suppliers of them DID have major issues)?

im fine with it i just wish it was an option. I also wish i knew a little more about what it looks for to decide whether or not to ask and id probably be more comfortable.

While Blizzard will never say what exactly it relies on, there are two assumptions you can safely make: it does not rely on IP address alone, and it does not rely on one single thing.

I would also prefer to enter it, or at least have the option. I have not read anywhere that they are using IP addresses for the validation, maybe an internal "exe" based key, so it would be specific to your install of the game client. DOes anyone have an insight as to exactly how they are performing this test?

Also, to confirm, I tried logging in with multiple computers that are all within my same home network, and only my main PC skipped the authenticator step. My laptop, wife's PC, and kids PC's all asked me for an authenticator code. They do all have different IPs of course, but only on the inside.

I can't see them revealing that information as that will only make it easier for someone to crack the system and exploit this new 'improvement'. Overall though i would suggest that this is going to cause more issues than it may solve for players and it would have been better as a choice option to help overcome any specific cases where this could cause issues.e.g. where people use it to prevent people who have access to their PC from doing anything stupid or malicious to their account.

They may link it further to the PCs MAC Address, which would keep it unique to the actual computer you log in from most often, but those can be spoofed about as easily as an IP. But, I would like to think it's like what you suggested - something related to your unique install. IP + Mac + Unique Install would still be hard to get around.

I'm still a bit uneasy about it (more because I'm lazy and hate resetting restored guild banks), but if they want to keep it totally secure I don't see them being able to tell us how it works exactly (at least until someone cracks it >.<).
