Looking for a little fun?? Good Gold Potential...

I've started doing some rep grinding again, trying to get the Hydraxian Waterlords (Molten Core) rep and Goblin reps up, to try and get to 55 reps (or at least until Blizzard fixes the 55 rep guild achievement).

I did a Molten Core run last night and enjoyed it a good bit, mainly because being able to easily solo it is kind of an andrenaline rush. I remember having to 40-man that place, and now being to solo it is pretty epic (I know... technically old news, but I haven't gone in there in quite awhile, so it was just oddly fun to me).

Something I came to realize by the time I reached Garr (which didn't take long at all, even with killing all trash) is that doing Molten Core runs could be quite profitable. I know others have mentioned this in the past as well, but I thought I'd elaborate on it a bit more and provide a deeper look into just what you could potentially see from a run in there.

There are a number of drops that are pretty valuable and will net a tidy chunk of gold on the AH. Others sell for a much smaller price, but still add up.

    Here's a list:

Basic Drops (Commodity & Rep-related items)

Valuable BOE Drops (Professions & Quest Components)

BOE Epic Armor drops (Tier 1 gear)

There are also a large number of BOE blue item drops, basically any of the upper level 50's blue world drops can drop in Molten Core as well.

In my run last night, I had 3x drop (from the Molten Giants, if I remember right), 1x , 1x , plus 8 or 9 each of & . I also had several of the BOE epic drops, 5 BOE blue item drops (3 of which came from Ragnaros), a decent number of the basic commodity items, and a good chunk of gold from vendoring all the BoP epic items that dropped from bosses.

Oh, and if you are a miner, snag all the Dark Iron Ore Deposits, for even more gold. There's a chance to get from those deposits as well.

So, all in all, it's a decent haul from doing a single run. If you are looking for something to do for fun and enjoy the thril of absolutely destroying something that once upon a time required 40 people to take down, I'd recommend hitting up Molten Core. The gold is good, the rep is good, and you might even get a piece to a legendary weapon in there.

    HAVE FUN!!

The rep is horrible. It takes months to reach exalted. Once you hit revered, only the bosses give you rep. You're looking at a good 15-20weeks just to max out from revered. Everything prior to that is irrelevant since you'll get it from just grinding trash.

The epics still sell "nicely". (25g each appears to be the sweetspot on my server.) The blues vary. Sometimes, you're just better off sharding them. Some of the epic drops vendor well enough, but you may want to consider sharding them and converting those shards upwards to large prismatics. (1 Nexus = 1 Small Primatic x3 = 1 Large Prismatic) So if a large prismatic isn't going for more than 3x the vendor price of the epic that dropped, just vendor it. You won't get many greens in MC, but if you do, they're higher up on the ilvl scale, so you've got a better chance at getting greater essences.

On the flip side, many people blindly shard those epics and post the nexus crystals on the AH. You should be able to flip a small profit from those. Scan the AH for people who post the greens for less than or equal to illusion dust prices.

The cores seem to sell well around 5g each on my server. The rest don't seem to go very well. The enchants will naturally do well, but good luck getting them. I've had 3 ever and I'm 5 weeks off of exalted.

As a gold vs time investment, MC on the whole is pretty poor compared to other old raids. The fun will rapidly fade after a few weeks and all you'll have left is the OCD of doing it. If you can't use the Eye and/or Bindings, sucker a friend into going just to speed it up. Hopefully one with mining. Depending on your server, the dark iron bars may not sell at all.

Sorry for the longish response. I just wanted to add a different perspective. (I've been in there far too long.)
Solo'd as an elemental shaman (pre and post EQ change). My partner for sanity is sometimes a warrior who's hoping for bindings or another eye. (I snagged the first.)

Edit: Sorry if my intro sounds bitter. This rep grind needs a buff badly.
Dreaming of the day that we can put away our gold and earn interest on it.

Didn't say doing MC runs was the best gold-per-hour method. It's an alternative for making gold and having a bit of fun. If you've been doing MC for a long time for rep grinding, then yes it may be not worth it to you. But for others who haven't done MC in a good while, it could be fun and can return several thousand gold. I'm looking at 3-4k from my run last night alone. That still isn't chump change.

to get three in one run is incredible. I grinded out to exalted through Wrath and into Cata and was lucky to get 1 per run.

There are also a few BOP recies for the recipe collectors out there. LW pattern always drop for my hunter and never for my LW <3 RNG.

Nice list of items so far. The bloods drop off of the [npc]molten destroyer[/npc], and I'd have to agree with above posters; getting 3 was pretty lucky. As Random said, there are also some BoP recipies that can drop in MC aswell.

I'm in MC weekly for a shot at thunderfury right now, I clear up to rags and then leave him up for a guildie that needs sulfuras. I average anywhere from 500-1k weekly in there, although it increases greatly if I get a blood.

This also reminds me, I'm not sure I've done it this week...along with attumen...hmmm

I've never gotten more than 1 blood per run and it seems to be about 1 per 2-3 runs. The BOE epics go for about 50g for me. The blues (particularly from Rags) seem to do better. The elemental earth and essence of earth sell pretty well, but the rest of the trade mats generally are pretty saturated. The same is true of the recipes. One thing that has surprised me is that I still haven't picked up .

If you are in there for rep, the guild bonuses help, but also remember the . The cooldown is a bit of a pain, but depending on how quickly you can clear it, you can use it 3-4 times. I use it early, at Golemagg (since he's 150 rep) and at Rag. It's not a lot, but it's a small boost that might save you a week at the end.
