What to do with green quality cata items?

Just started with the gold acquiring facet of this game so please forgive me. I still farm on occasion. My most recent gig is skinning level 83 elite mobs for leather and blackened scales. I figure this is one mat that bots can't touch. While farming these mobs, I come across a fair amount of green quality items. Usually about 25-30 items an hour. I could disenchant them, but enchanting mats are cheap on my server. 3-5 gold per hypnotic dust and the enchanting market is fairly saturated. I have just been posting them on the AH for between 20-60g each and some sell, some don't. The problem is the deposit fees are pretty high given the highish vendor prices.

If you have access to a good number of green items, how do you all determine which greens to DE, vendor, or post on AH with minimal effort?

Speaking generically across all item levels, the simplest division is between weapons and armor. Weapons cost more to list and give more essences while armor gives more dust. Essences usually sell for more and more quickly. The other division is the type of armor and what piece it is. Between chest pieces, plate will cost the most to list, then mail, then leather and cloth will cost the least to list. There is also a difference based on what piece it is. I don't have the list memorized, but I usually think of it in terms of size. Chest and legs cost more to list than boots and gloves, for example (it's based on vendor price). At lower levels, there are bad stat combos (like "of the wolf") that I would be more likely to DE. Also at lower levels, pieces that are usually filled by heirlooms are also less likely to sell. I realize some of this doesn't help you as much with Cataclysm greens, but that's sort of my thought process at any level. Weigh those factors and just go by gut feel is how I usually do it.

    A number of things.

Transmute Rubies and Topaz if you need them.

DE them if it is worth the time.

    Make metas.

If usually vendor stacks of yellow and blue gems.

Plenty of bots run around kill stuff and then loot and skin he corpses. Most of these bots I've seen are hunters, where the pets do most of the work. So it's not a market safe from botting.

Are you in the wrong topic? He's not talking about green gems, but green gear drops.

What to do with your green items?

If the are used for tanking, then they get listed on the AH. If its a weapon a leveler could use with great a great stat combination or a rare item slot (relics, guns, bows) I'll list those too. If not, they are disenchanted and sent through normal shuffling procedures as are the green items that don't sell after relisting once.

Also greens tend to sell better on the weekends, when there are more players on and more leveling characters.

    Opps late nights replies fail.

I usually end up DEing most of my greens.

If they have Cataclysm suffixes (of the Stormblast, of the Zephyr, etc) I usually toss them up. Weapons and non-Cataclysm suffix armors are usually DE'd.

Another thing to note is the level of the green; levels 78-79 greens will sell largely regardless of the suffix, just for people who are questing/pvping and want the massive stat upgrades from cata gear vs northrend gear. I always found it easy to sell 78-79 greens(except for things like of the whale), so those you should pretty much put all of them up.

Higher level greens you want to only put up the ones with good modifiers, as mentioned earlier really only focus on putting up the cata modifer greens.

As Sadinar pointed out, 77-79 items of any suffix may be valuable, and on top of the reasons they mentioned, I know that with full heirlooms and random blues from the dungeons I'd been running I actually didn't have the iLevel to queue for Cata normals upon hitting that level with my alts, so the buffed item level on these greens can help a lot with that, regardless of what they're for. (My ele shaman leveled with a lot of enhance gear just so I could get my mail specialization extra Int, for example.)

So if it's 77-79 of any type or 80+ with a good suffix for the item (Plate of the Bouldercrag, Cloth of the Feverflare, etc.) I'll post it, if it's got a stupid combination of gear I'll usually just dust it if the prices of the mats are goo. (I consider good 5g for Dust and 30g for GCEs.)

    thanks for all the replies.

these are ilvl 300+ greens, so I've recently just been posting them all on the AH in a shotgun fashion to see what happens. Deposit on items is 5-10g. Listing price is 40-80g.

It is absolutely true that I get many more sales during Fri/Sat/Sun. No clear pattern as far as type (helm, neck, chest, waist, etc or cloth, leather, mail, plate). Seems completely random what sells and what doesn't.

seems like even if I have to relist twice at 48 hours, I'm still coming out ahead over DE'ing, as they seem to DE into only 2-4 dust (dust current 3-5g per) or 2-3 lesser essences for weapons.

What durations are you posting them for? I would not post them for longer than 24h at a time. You can more easily react to any competition and you're not wasting deposit fees.

Also, I recommend DEing whatever you grab that can convert into greater or lesser essences and make for sale. I have yet to see these selling below mats cost in many situations.
