    Real Life Goblins

Weird topic...but I was reading this article this morning, http://www.michaeleisen.org/blog/?p=358,
and it kinda reminded me of AH dealings a little.

I haven't been a AH player for too long, but have done pretty well since I started and must admit every now and then I wonder how I can take the "lessons learned" and use it in real life. Like taking over all sales on crafted whatevers on Etsy, or something or other.

You always hear about how "raid leaders" make good employees because of how organized and reliable they are and sometimes even put that stuff on their resumes.

Just curious if there are a few of you pro-ah'ers who have adapated what you do on the AH into your own real money lives? Or vice versa...trade stocks as a career, for example?

I've done a small amount of flipping in real life, mostly Magic: The Gathering cards and older video games. This seems to be more dependent on buying them places where they may not know the true value like flea markets, yard sales, and etc.

I applied my philosophy towards life, to my AH game. And in this context, that is simply:

    1) Save.
    2) Don't buy on credit.
    3) Work hard.
    4) Have fun.

Everything I learned from playing the AH simply reinforced my philosophy towards life.

Sadly, my in-game abilities are not the same as in RL. Maybe they are, but I could only *wish* I was a RL goblin. My attempts at stock market and/or buying/selling/professions in RL have almost all turned into mud. Argh!

    awesome post!

I was lucky to have had a successful business for 17 years and did quite well in Real Estate (before credit default swaps) over the years. I also dabble in currency markets. My goals in life were simple and effective: "Play for the long term". That has translated to my goblin life in-game and has been equally rewarding.
