What do you Gift in WoW?

I had a situation today where I wanted to show my appreciation for a guild member who was instrumental in building my guild, but who was leaving the guild for other, greener pastures.

Just as in real life, I think sending gold to somebody to show your appreciation is tacky. These kinds of things really call for a gift. But what kind of gifts can you give in WoW?

I didn't know, so pulled up the AH and went straight for the Pets tab. I settled on , which I mailed to my former guildie along with a short note expressing my gratitude.

I thought the P.W.D. made sense because it is sort of valuable, but definitely not too valuable. Amusing, if not particularly useful. Hey, its the thought that counts with gifts.

What gift would you give to somebody in the game to show them that you care?

The most recent gift I gave one of my friends as a birthday present/joke was 1,000 s for him to flip and see if he could get lucky.

I gave my old GM a gift wrapped key to the Chopper. Being GM is a huge & thankless task and he went above & beyond the call, so it deserved the best gift I could think of. It was kind of a tailored gift - he does alot of BGs & tends to do those with his friend who is a healer, apart from being a very cool ground mount, using the chopper means he can carry his pocket heals around.

In the past I've also given an Orb of Deception - the recipient was a tauren which become gnomes with the orb & what Tauren doesn't secretly want to be a gnome sometimes. I always thought the argent tournament pets were cool - if i was fresh out of specific ideas for a particular person I would probably move an Alliance one over to Horde (which one would depend on the person) & giftwrap that.

Those sound like very good gifts! I think that is the challenge when choosing a gift in-game. Sure you could just give somebody something that is traditionally valuable in the sense that we traditionally think of, like a rare recipe or a rare piece of armor. But what is the fun in that? If you're only giving something that is valuable in a monetary sense then you might as well be giving them cold hard gold. A good gift needs to have some thought behind it and be tailored to the situation, and you seem to have found some very appropriate ones for the right people.

    Any other ideas about gifts?

A college buddy of mine and his roommate recently xfered to my server (I forget why...) I got my friend the and his friend a . I don't generally do gifts, but I really like the idea of gifting a rare pet. It's nice and fun without being too flashy or over-the-top.

One of my favorite things to give, especially to new wow players or someone who doesn't actually explore many different things in wow like pets or new looks etc is:

A life time supply of (aka like 300-500 of them).

I am somewhat stingy compared to you guys, I like to take a trip with the guzzler and buy a bunch of stacks of to give to all on my friendslist and officers in the guild, often together with a little . I do this every christmas, together with a little personal christmas card.

I like those items, cause it'll knock your socks off... and then set your feet on fire, while being happy for 1 hour. Oh and the cake shoots fireworks when you eat it ofc.
Every friday I post some statistics on what/how much I've sold the last week; MySales Weekly Statistics
Are you prepared to supply those pets in 4.1.0? Check out my full list of sellable pets, and their rarity

Back when snowballs caused knockbacks on friendly targets, I'd offer people a few stacks of snowballs in July, just so they could make their MT's life hell :P More recently, I've offered a mekgineer's chopper, as well as various minipets or vanity items (a rare recipe when I know the person collects them, etc.).
