    Guild transfer feature coming

    http://wow.joystiq.com/2011/03/23/gu...e-coming-soon/

We want to give everyone an early heads-up regarding our plan to implement a guild relocation service for World of Warcraft. The idea is for a guild leader to be able to transfer a guild to another realm. The guild structure remains intact, including the guild leader, guild bank, ranks, and guild name (depending on availability).

Guild members who decide to relocate with their guild may initiate their own paid character transfer. Upon a successful transfer they will automatically be part of the guild when they first log into the new realm. Their guild rank and guild reputation will be intact.

Guild leaders who do not want a change of scenery may also choose to pick a new guild name using another new service. These services are in development and we will be providing additional details at a future point in time.

As with all of the features and services we offer, we intend to incorporate the guild relocation service in a way that will not disrupt the game play experience. Please note that this feature will require extensive internal testing, so you may see bits and pieces of the service appear on the public test realms.
This could have maybe gone in speculation because I'm quite curious to see what everyone thinks of it.

The fact the guild bank gets transferred, we could ultimately stock up (to a limit) of whatever we want from our main realm and relocate somewhere else and setup shop.

Wouldn't be surprised if there was a minimum player count or guild level or something. Its what I would do if I was blizzard. Also, probably more expensive than a regular transfer

The fact it says "Guild members who decide to relocate with their guild may initiate their own paid character transfer" makes me believe it would only be the GM and the guild itself being transferred initially for achievements/guild level and then anyone who chooses to could follow. I do imagine it'll be more expensive than a regular transfer though.

This might also allow for guild shopping, not to move away from your server, but to bring one back to your server from somewhere else. Find a high-level guild, pay off the the GL, and transfer it home.

I can really see this being useful for shopping runs, especially if we can start moving around million-gold guilds. Transferring six tabs full of goodies from a high-progression server back to my backwater server would be worth an enormous amount of profits. This would allow cross-server arbitrage on a massive scale.

Z-man hit the nail on the head, this is exactly what I thought. There are enough people doing server-transfer arbitrage now, this would simply make it easier and much more profitable.

I suspect the reason that they're considering this is that they've probably seen a drastic drop in the number of individual player transfer requests since few now want to abandon the sweat-equity they've invested in guild rep. And that would mean fewer transfer dollars being paid to Blizz.

While strategic character transfers have long been used to smuggle wealth between realms, I see this development akin to constructing WoW's version of the Panama Canal for transporting both goods and gold in either direction.

I'm really curious as too how this is gonna work. Is everyone interested gonna have to 'que' and then when the guild is ready the guild leader hits the go button?

I wonder if it'll make the average person more leery of putting things in the bank... or as a guild starts to show signs of breaking, I can see a GM ninja'ing an entire guild should be interesting to see how they handle that.

As with Gbank ninjas (GM or not) they seem to be good at replacing items, so I wouldn't be too concerned from that aspect.

There is semi-serious discussion regarding server/faction movement in my guild now. I'm unsure how to take it. I've got 3 banks of my own; two of which are holding items (I bought the third for 75g via Trade a couple of weeks ago).
