Ways to make gathering more enjoyable?

It seems like a lot of people here will do some intense gathering come cataclysm, What are YOUR tips to make the farming more enjoyable? Here are some of mine.

    1) watch series/film
    2) listen to music
    3) surf the net

For series I usually watch something which isnt to complicated plotwise or something which I've seen before so I'm not completely lost about what's happening.

My son's portable DVD player has been invaluable this past week. Been watching National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation while leveling my hunter.

How can anyone watch a movie or surf the web while gathering?

I listen to music, have good food available to eat, and also gathering with a friend can make it more fun as well. For Cataclysm, a friend of mine and I are planning on gathering together to help fight off mobs/Hordies, and we'll be sharing the loot. I'll make sure I have a bunch of playlists ready! Hell - I might even put in my Cataclysm Soundtrack music that comes in my CE!! LOL!

I play on a big monitor so I usually have half of the screen with a movie/tv-serie/internet browser up and wow x 2 in window mode at the other half. Granted I might have to watch the film/ episode again since i might miss a few things here and there

It's not exactly what we're asking for but i can't resist.

Ways to make gathering more enjoyable?
Pay someone else to do it.

No matter what i do i really can't drag myself to purposely gather anything. I had the realisation a long time ago...What is the point having all this gold if i am simply going to let it sit there while i get bored out of my skull?!

The last time i tried to gather anything was when i was leveling my second alchemist, i needed firebloom for his first alchemy stone and they were 15g each on the AH which i thought was a huge rip off. I managed to find one flower before i remembered why i gave up gathering a long time ago, hearthed and went straight to the AH to buy them.
It did have one good outcome though, i realised this was a nice niche market i could use to make gold from so i know buy cheap firebloom and flip them for profit.

I usually listen to audio books whilst gathering. Makes a bit of a change from music, but doesn't require you to be looking away from the screen.

I do have a friend that pays his children in biscuits and sweets to do it for him while he's at work though!

When it comes to achievement grinds, gathering, or crafting best thing for me is music, vent, groups (for rep farming kills) or playing something on my computer and use the "always on top" option in VLC. This is also great for fishing too, if you turn game sounds up so you can hear the sound of a fish being caught. I love weekend nights when a raid ends, or everyone is on vent for whatever reason, or maybe guild chat is the focus of conversation and I've had a couple "TGIF" drinks and I hop on my farming toon, or do a rep grind with my main. My guild has a great sense of humour and I get so much accomplished without feeling any of the pain of doing something mindless because my mind is being stimulated.
If you find a post helpful give the author some reputation. See the forum FAQ for more info.

Some good, relaxing music I would suggest for farming:

    1) "Mezzanine" or "Heligoland" by Massive Attack
    2) "Moon Safari" by Air
    3) Anything by A Tribe Called Quest or Blackalicious

    Music to kill stuff to:

    1) Opeth
    2) Tool
    3) Between the Buried & Me

Yes. Something about oldschool hiphop that just resonates for farming.

Its either vocal trance or oldschool hiphop for me, which is weird because its not music i would normally listen to otherwise.

If I could adopt a gaggle of kids, pay in biscuits and sweets, and then sell gold to susan...hmmm, interesting idea for a business model?

Now Timmy...I only see 35 stacks of Saronite here...well, okay, here's a biscuit top for today. Don't let this happen again...

j/k of course. I'm now off to make a donation to some childrens organization
