Auction House "Time Left" details - anyone know them?

I recall reading a discussion about this somewhere, but can't seem to find what I'm looking for....details on exactly how the "Time Left" calculation works.

I recall reading that the "timer" resets at each bid, but if no bids are made within the allotted time, then the auction is sold/expired. Is this accurate, and does it change based on a Very Long, Long, Medium, etc - Time Left value?

    From Wowpedia:

    Auction lengths
Short - Less than 30 minutes.
Medium - Between 30 minutes and 2 hours.
Long - Between 2 hours and 12 hours.
Very Long - Between 12 hours and 48 hours.
If an item receives a large number of bids in a short amount of time, the duration on that item will be automatically increased by the AH (e.g., a Short length will be changed to Medium, and a Medium to Long). It appears that the change in length is to the minimum amount for that length, not the maximum. I.e., a change from Medium to Long changes the length to 2 hours, not 12.
Not really that helpful, unfortunately. It's interesting how sparse information regarding auction timers are.

Yeah I saw this too, but it's not enough detail. I also read that each bid adds "a little time". But there is no detail. There used to be an illegal addon that would actually inspect the code, and tell you the exact time (I was NOT looking for it), but it's long since been banned and rendered useless by Warden and patches.

For what it's worth, I was watching the BMAH more actively than usual today because my T3 gloves were up. Going exactly by the time ranges of medium and short that I knew, the auction was due to end between 2:17 and 2:30. 3 bids were definitely placed during the short duration, and possibly 1 more. The auction ended at 2:32.

Now I really wish I hadn't jumped in the shower when I did, so I could have seen exactly when it ticked from medium to short.

There is always some brief discussion popping up on the actual time added from each bid on the Auctioneer forums, but the general consensus is that it appears to add approximately 5 minutes per bid.

As far as I am aware, Big Blue has never actually confirmed anything other than that some small amount of time is added for each bid. How much time and how they arrive at that number (calculated ro fixed amount) has never been confirmed.

This seems to be very true for the regular AH, it does not appear to be true for the BMAH. Multiple bids placed on an item, every thirty seconds to one minute, with a short duration in the BMAH and the item still sold while bids were being placed.
