    DMF Replica Transmog Gear Guide

So with the transmog market floating around ok, and most of the goblins centering their business around flipping cheap parts of sets that appear on the AH, I thought I might look into how I could supply some. I noticed this thread http://stormspire.net/auction-house-...to-profit.html, which touched on something I've being doing for a couple of months now. Decided to write it up.

The DMF provides "Replica" versions of the old Dungeon 1 & 2 sets from Vanilla that are no longer available anywhere else (except some of the BoA levelling gear).

    Dungeon Set 1
    Magister's - http://www.wowhead.com/transmog-set=573
    Valor - http://www.wowhead.com/transmog-set=934
    Devout - http://www.wowhead.com/transmog-set=617
    Lightforge - http://www.wowhead.com/transmog-set=595
    Dreadmist - http://www.wowhead.com/transmog-set=683
    Elements - http://www.wowhead.com/transmog-set=661
    Wildheart - http://www.wowhead.com/transmog-set=529
    Beaststalker - http://www.wowhead.com/transmog-set=551
    Shadowcraft - http://www.wowhead.com/transmog-set=639

    Dungeon Set 2
    Virtuous - http://www.wowhead.com/transmog-set=618
    Heroism - http://www.wowhead.com/transmog-set=935#comments
    Darkmantle - http://www.wowhead.com/transmog-set=640
    Feralheart - http://www.wowhead.com/transmog-set=530
    Beastmaster's - http://www.wowhead.com/transmog-set=552
    Deathmist - http://www.wowhead.com/transmog-set=684
    Five Thunders - http://www.wowhead.com/transmog-set=662
    Soulforge - http://www.wowhead.com/transmog-set=596
    Sorceror's - http://www.wowhead.com/transmog-set=574

Some of these look fairly dated and I wouldn't expect them to sell, but there are some great looking sets in there that will fetch a pretty penny.

Building a set, luckily, doesn't take 6 months like Blizzard would have you believe. You can use the monthly quest turn-ins to buy 1 piece of gear per levelled character on your account per month.

The Chest, Shoulders, Head, and Legs cost 75 tokens each.
The Wrists, Hands, Feet, and Belt cost
    55 tokens each.

There are 9 turn-ins. Apart from 2, they all require lvl 15.
    A Treatise on Strategy http://www.wowhead.com/quest=29451 - 15 tokens (level 85 only)
    Soothsayer's Runes http://www.wowhead.com/quest=29464 - 10 tokens (level 85 only)
    Ornate Weapon http://www.wowhead.com/quest=29446 - 10 tokens
    Mysterious Grimoire http://www.wowhead.com/quest=29445 - 10 tokens
    Monstrous Egg http://www.wowhead.com/quest=29444 - 10 tokens
    Imbued Crystal http://www.wowhead.com/quest=29443 - 10 tokens
    Captured Insignia http://www.wowhead.com/quest=29457 - 5 tokens
Banner of the Fallen http://www.wowhead.com/quest=29456 - 5 tokens
    Adventurer's Journal http://www.wowhead.com/quest=29458 - 5 tokens

With these, a lvl 15+ character can get 55 tokens per month, and a lvl 85+ character can get 80 tokens per month.

If have the extra time on your hands, a lvl 15 character can complete the profession monthly quests (4 tokens each) and a couple of dailies to bring their monthly total up to 75 tokens, if needed. But, if you're lazy like me, you'll just be picking up the quest items when they're cheap between faires. It shouldn't cost much more than 1,000 gold, if that, to get the items you need for each character.

When you're buying armor pieces, try to get multiple pieces of the same set to increase the selling appeal. The pieces you want will depend on the set and which pieces are already getting posted on your server. But as an example, I sold 3 pieces of virtuous set to one person a couple of weeks ago, for 10-15k a pop. If you have no competition, I think the 10-15k range is suitable pricing for these pieces. You could charge around 5-10k for the less prominent pieces, but if you can, preference buying the major pieces first.

Fairly new to the market so, interested to know what experiences other people have had selling these items. The profit is there.

You can get 145 tokens each DMF:
    10 by collecting 250 trophies
    35 by dailies
    20 by professions (2 primary+4 secondary)
    80 by world drop quests

Doesnt sound like good profit opportunity for me, considering the prices of PvE Quest items (5 pve items, which give you 55 tickets are selling for 3000g+ total during DMF), how many tickets do u get without PvE quest items, amount of time to do dailies each day, lack of secondary(primary?) professions on alts and the main reason, there is no market for replicas.

Of course it depends on your server prices, for the quest items, and the demand for the transmog sets.

I've found that for minimal time investment (maybe 10 minutes per character each month to turn in), I can check prices on the quest hand ins every couple of days, buy them when they're cheap, then I can flip some during the faire for a healthy profit, OR turn in a bunch for valueable transmog items. I don't bother doing the dailies as I've grown tired of the repetition. They can save money instead of purchasing the turn in items, but the time it takes to do those dailies might be better spent elsewhere.

This strategy relies solely on the quest turn ins for the tickets, i.e. it's for lazy people such as myself.

The only one I have trouble getting cheap is the Treatise on Strategy, which doesn't go lower than 300g on my server. But the others can all be found 50-100g between faires. Total price for the 9 turn ins comes out around 1k usually (more like 3k during the faire). But, when the items are selling for 5-15k, what's not to love?

I've often tried spamming trade chat I was selling a Darkmoon Faire replica item "of your choice" and to PST me. Nobody has ever once expressed any interest. I periodically check the AH for "replica" just to see if anything is there, so far I've never seen anything up. So obviously there's no market for these items on my server atm, though I suppose I could try to make one. What set do you generally have the most luck with?

Oops. While editing I must have removed my mention of it.

Sold 3 pieces of Virtuous a couple of weeks ago. 15k each for shoulders and chest. 10k for the belt. It's an amazing looking set in my opinion, and I expect to sell more of them in the future.

Virtuous is probably the best of them. Other good ones might be Heroism, Devout, Magister's, but it's up to you really. Look for items that you would buy (if you're that way inclined). Check for competition, and post at ludicrous prices.

Checking TUJ shows only 10-20 servers max have seen each replica item since the 4.3 faire was introduced, so it's probably not a matter of there being no demand, but rather, no supply. More than half of those prices are very low (sub 4k), so maybe I got real lucky, but would love to hear whether anyone else has pulled off similar sales.

Great post, a couple other things to keep in mind is that several of the helms and shoulders are available via BoAs. Definitely stay away from those sets. If I had to guess at which sets will be big (and I do, cause I haven't messed with this market) I would say Darkmantle (because every rogue wants to look like a ninja) and Lightforge (iconic set, and one of few old world gear options for DKs). I might have to play with this.

I didn't see it mentioned here, but you need to be at least lvl 54 to BUY these. Found out the hard way on my lvl 46 alt......
