    Selling rare items

I have only been running searches for rare items for a couple months now, and I've already gotten over 20 rare recipes, and a couple .

    I haven't sold a single one.

I've been listing most of the recipes for 2k, some at 1k, and the "Low" ones at 500. The few epic ones I post I've been keeping at 5k.

Is it possible my server just doesn't have any completionists? It was marked for New Players until just recently. Or are my prices too high? I'm afraid if I start dropping my prices, people that were watching them might wait for me to drop them again before buying.

This is not the season for old world sales. Folks are spending on gear and enchancments for new content. Wait until raid farm status when folks have down time and gold is accumulating in their pockets.

The rare recipe game requires a lot of patience.....I was having the same feelings you are, but trust me they do sell! I have sold a few here and there for nice profits, but it took weeks of posting to find the buyer.
    Hang in there!

Zenit is right. You won't score many old-world sales until guilds start clearing instances and players get bored. That being said, I have 90% of rare (non-sunwell) recipes for sale at the auction house every day. I get several mails and whispers from players interested in purchasing the recipes, but I know that I'll get my outrageous asking price eventually. Since cataclysm, I've sold:

    5k
5k (I know the guy, he's cool so I cut him a deal)
    2k
    4k

Amongst others. I'm sure you understand that these kind of items are long term investments, just be patient!

The other thing to remember is that the listing price for Vanilla recipes is almost always less than 1g and BC is generally between 1g and 2g. So, you're not really losing anything continuing to post them. But, I agree, sales were pretty good right before Cataclysm. I think I've sold just one of my rares since Cataclysm.

It's a nice market to play in if you can spare the gold, or if you pick up a good deal. I'm sitting on a hyacinth macaw, few oozelings (thanks blizz for the droprate change just after I buy these), enchant shield lesser block, teebu's blazing longsword, some first mate hats, and a bunch of other recipes I expect to sell for 3-5k. You can try advertising on your realm forums, or in trade - prepare for "OMG WTF 20000g ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR MIND" whispers - but in the end, just have patience. Your target market is very small and the items will take a while to move.

What is the horde/alliance breakdown on your realm like? Are you playing on the less populated side?

You may also get a few sellers if you do something like list the recipes high for a few weeks to seed Auctioneer scans, then drop the price to "normal." The odd Snatch scan may grab some of them that way. It won't make you loads but it could help pay for your listing costs.

Indeed, I have been doing that with Teebu's. Unfortunately the 15-25k gold listing price, even if it pops up as under 50% PCT on their Auctioneer, is still usually enough to stop people just buying it as a quick flip :P

Wait... oozeling droprate changed? I had not heard that, but the comments on wowhead seem to confirm. These are still selling for ungodly prices on my server. I might have to find a way to take advantage of this.

Lots more of certain pets have been appearing. The oozeling is regularly on sale for under 2000g on my server with three or four posted. I still managed to sell one for 6k a couple of weeks ago but wont be investing in any more for the moment. Same with captured firefly - they are available constantly and very cheaply. A few hyacinth macaws have appeared and Razzashi Hatchlings are available for under 1000g. Dark Whelpling is cheap as chips too. I'm wondering where all the new rare pets are to replace these as at the moment nothing seems to be super rare. The pet market is very depressed, depressingly.
