What are you working with now?

I've been working the AH on and off for roughly five months now, give or take a week or so. Sadly, I've never broken even the 3K Mark. My main issue is that, even though I try to not take money from my bank alt, I do. "Hm, 2K more for epic flying...My bank alt has that!" "Woot, new gear! Now I need gems though and have no money...Oh wait, I have a bank alt!" And other things like that. I always leave my self with enough money to get back to work, but I can never retain a good amount. I'll build up to 2500, then spend 2K. Or build up to 2K, and spend 1K.

Because of this, I never have a lot of money to play around with, so my buying/selling items, have been rather small. Mostly things like Abyss Crystals, Eternal Shadow, Saronite Bars, and Titanium. Those are the four things I sell most. Unfortunately, lately the marked for all of those has hit rock bottom. On my server, anyway. So now I'm struggling to keep making gold, and have no clue what to buy and sell.

I'm a little scared to branch out into markets I don't know, because since I have very little money, a 2K mistake could wreck me. One other thing I sell is Netherweave bags. I can buy the mats for about 6G, and sell the bags for 9-14G. The problem is, demand has dropped way down, and so have prices. With 4.0.3 coming out soon, and Cata soon after, high level toons aren't making alts that need bags, and low level toons don't have money to spend on bags. Or if they do, they aren't buying any.

I'm kind of out of idea's for buying and selling items, or crafting. The only profs I have are Mining, JC, Enchanting, and tailoring. I've looked into making scrolls, and some ARE worth it, like Enchant Weapon Berserking, but that may take a week or two to sell.

So what do you work with on the AH? And any tips on how I can get my business back up and running?

Depends on your goal? Best bet, invest your 2k into something for after Cataclysm drops and hope for positive returns, while doing dailies to increase your gold supply? Vanishing Powder can always be bought and sold for some extra coin.

If you're really cautious about your gold right now, try to sit tight and wait for Cataclysm. If you have any gathering toons, it's still worth-while going and doing some farming. It is a bit time consuming, but the return is very safe because there's no gold investment. All I've been doing is selling BoE's I pick up from farming achievements and very little item flipping at the moment.

I see. You're advice is very good Fractella. I can gather up Cobalt and Saronite/titanium with my miner. And I want to get one of my toons from mining, to herbs. (I have two miners, one horde, one ally. The ally is faction transferring tomorrow though, so I'll have two miners horde side, and I don't need that.) Since I haven't had *that* much luck with skinning in the past, I think I'll stick with mining/herbs. I'm grabbing stuff up for Winters Veil, as well as farming, so I'm hoping that'll pay off nicely. Do you think it would be a good idea to post mats for profs the night before cata goes live, like with Winters Veil?

I don't think many people will be leveling professions right away, most people will be leveling their 80's to 85, exploring new zones etc. It never hurts to post things up, especially if the market looks dry, and no harm done if they don't sell right away.

Depending on your markets right now, it might be worth farming lower-level mats, since some people are switching professions for Cataclysm or finishing off some professions, or leveling alts to fill the lull. It's pretty server sensitive though.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I've compared prices on my servers to others, and sometimes other servers are really really cheap, or really really expensive. Or things sell way better then on mine. I think for the time being I'm going to stick with dailies, doing whatever little AH flipping I can, and gathering mats up. I also want to get some Razzashi Hatchlings, and maybe some Red Whelp's. So I think I might take a few days off here and there from dailies, and spend them farming.

Like you said though, no harm in posting mats that I farmed my self. No loss in gold that way, so if they don't sell, no big deal.

I wouldn't be so quick to give up on the bag market. As many of the bloggers have said, the Netherweave bag market should take off in 4.0.3 AND in cataclysm because in the former, everyone will be rolling their tauren paladins and human hunters (among other things) and in cataclysm everyone and their mother will be rolling goblins or worgen. If you want to be a little bit speculative start stocking up bags for 4.0.3 and see how many you can sell on the first day of 4.0.3. Then that should give you a decent idea of how much demand to expect in Cataclysm (I would guess you'll sell 4-5 times as many bags in the first few days of cataclysm as you'll sell during the beginning of 4.0.3.

Also, do you have TUJ on your server? Set up some notifications from the snatch list thread and see if you can get a homerun flip that will turn your fortunes around.

Between the glyphsales, im trying to stock up on:

    Frostweave Cloth
    Infinite Dust
    Dream Shard
    Eternal Fire
    Eternal Shadow
    Titanium Ore
    Saronite Ore

frostweave+dust+eternals can always be turned in to Abyssal Bags as a fall back plan

I like to stock up on Titanium, but don’t like the idea to do that in bars. I prefer the Ores, and can always make the bares my self if I need that instead.

Other the that I spend my time on looking for Sterlings stockpile report part 2.

I haven’t really invested any serious amount in long term investments before, but after hitting the 214K marker, I’ll start stockpiling.

To drockrock, at first I forgot about 4.0.3 and how gobbies/worgen's in Cata. Now that I remember about those, I'm starting to stock up on Netherweave Bags. I can't really say if my server has a TUJ or not, because I don't know what that is. XD

As for Meyer, I've never really learned the glyph market, so I don't know what sells well, or not As far as collecting the dust/cloth/eternals and having Abyssal Bags to fall back on, I'd have to spend roughly 259G in mats to make 1 bag. And according to Wowhead, they sell for, or around, 143G. Thats a 116G loss per bag. If I started stockpiling that stuff, I'd probably be better off just reselling it and breaking even. Unless I kept track of every single thing I bought, and I could make some sort of profit on abyssal Bags.

I haven't seen much Life on the AH, but I'm looking to make a herb toon soon, so I should be able to just save whatever Life I get from herbing. In terms of Ore/bars of whatever, I'll have a miner coming horde side soon. (I have one now at 450, but soon I'll have another. So one miner is going herb.) I can just save up any ore/bars that I get from mining, as well as any eternals I find from that. Frostweave is 17G a stack, or less on my server, it depends on when you find it. I've seen it sell for 6G a stack, or 16G a stack, so it varies a lot. It also depends on how hard up for cash people are. Sometimes someone just wants to get rid of something fast, so they dump it really cheap.

I'm not sure if I should save any eternals I get, or put them on the AH now. I could always use more money, but I might be able to get more of it them come Cata.

Disenchants an Abyss Crystal into Greater Cosmic Essence or Infinite Dust.
(Check prices on Lesser vs Greater)

Check prices on Frozen Orb vs Eternal Fire and convert.

Converting higher-end items into lower-end items is very safe.

Asking for tips on what to sell is short term and server related. You really need to change your habits and thought process.

Gold has the value of gold. An item has a range value. An item is worth more so there is no reason to try and instantly convert it. Of course some items you may need to.

Items do not need to be sold that day. Do not undercut when the range is low. Do not flood the market or sell in bulk.

Just by having good seller habits you can easily make gold.

Remember not everyone is level 80. Setup Auctioneer and use it before you log off.
