Thumbs down "AH Bots" <- taking it too far...

So i've read the guides on auctioneer and how to snatch using realtime search. Initially being opposed to it, i've finally come to the point where i go with the flow rather than watch others being hugely successful. Well, that's part of the truth. I still haven't started snatching other's auctions but rather protecting my own neutral AH shipments. But i've become somewhat accustomed to the thought of eliminating the search bit.

However, there is a limit. <AH Bot Name>, a fully automated bot that Blizzard can't detect, just pisses me off. What happened to playing the game? You think it's here to stay? Because afaik it could totally ruin the Auction House as we know it.

There will always be bots, hacks, exploits and the like for games. It's just human's nature.

I remove the actual bot name that you mentioned because in the end, spreading the name around and letting people know the name of that bot only increases the amount of people that use it. Also remember bots aren't actually as undetectable as most think.

Good thinking, removing the bot's name...

As for bots not being as undetectable as people think, i'm more concerned about whether Blizzard will have the dignity to ban cases where they find bots. Or just reply to my tickets with another round of their "Thank you. We will do whatever we see fit. For more information on our policies, check..."

In the long run, it can ruin the game. I don't spend a lot of time in game so the Auction House is one of my biggest "thrills". Letting bots ruin it will definitely cost Blizzard a handful of players that love the game and tell others to subscribe... i've been very close lately to unsubscribing and telling others not to try the game.

Blizzard will always tell you (i.e. the person who reports the issue) "Thank you, we will look into it, but can't tell you what we'll do/have done." It's a simple matter of keeping things neat. They're the "police", not you, and I am absolutely convinced they have their game's best interests at heart. After all, why wouldn't they ban the bots? I've seen quite a few players on my server get whacked in the face by the banhammer for just that. Heck, if you look around these boards, a few of our own members have been suspended just because they dealt with so much gold in the short term that they were mistaken for bots.

Short story: have a bit more faith in Blizzard proecting its game. They can't tell you what they're doing, obviously, but they are watching and doing what they figure is best

Yah i realize you're right. Actually i've always been the first to defend Blizzard, being extremely in love with the game

It just feels like the introduction of the remote AH and it's possibilities for botting is disturbing my gameplay experience.

But, again, i guess you're right.

How on earth would you take over the AH using a remote AH bot anyway? 200 transactions/day is a pittance. You're being rather hyperbolic here.

Actually, RAH bots can be formidable cross-faction snipers: you can't check if they're there (as you would a physical player), you can't gank them if they are, you have to be pretty careful. So they can be quite a nuisance

A friend of mine told me that a friend of him (who is botting with like 50 accounts to sell the gold) looked into RAH and decided against it, because profit would be too low with 200transactions a day. So imo this won't ever become a real big thing.

But for players doing that to snipe or catch rare stuff: they might even get away with it imo. Now you might think that it is easy to detect botters: but if you script the browser via plugins blizz can't detect that via the http agent or usage patterns (if the bots wait as long as a human would between clicks, randomize etcpp). And for everything else there is just always an explanaition as to how you could have exactly done that yourself .... And a GM can't just /w you in the RAH to check if you are there. As bad as this sounds I think they might get away with it :-(

I personally would still not use such bots or write one myself because even the slightest chance to lose my account I have played for years is not worth any amount of gold I could make.

Thank you, Amandria - exactly my point.

I realize that "ruin the Auction House" might have been a bit too big a formulation... it would merely ruin it for me since i mainly trade cross faction, mainly the more expensive pets.

There are settings in the program which mean you have to confirm every action and, providing these are enabled, you can use it safely within the ToS. I understand its been upgraded recently to now include posting, but have no experience of this.

I used it in the past for buying cheap mats during the day while I was at work and the way I had it set up it was effectively and out of game auctioneer live search. As already mentioned, the 200 transaction limit ensures that it cannot be overly disruptive to the economy.

Used responsibly, this is a tool that can be extremely beneficial to a goblin, and IMO, does not warrant the trouncing you appear to be trying to instigate. For those of us without much time to be in game, it enables you to keep up with those who do quickly and easily.

I'd go as far as to suggest people actually give it a go - ensuring their settings are correct - and they'll then realise that this is not just another bot but a fantastic tool to add to their arsenal.

If you look at Undermine Journal market notifications, this does the same thing except that it provides you with a confirmation box to buy/bid on the item straight away without having to get yourself over to battle.net sharpish.
