Crafted 85 Epics now have a socket

    From Today's Patch Notes:
    # A socket has been added to most crafted epic armor pieces that did not already have one.

I think this an opportunity, albeit a very short lived one. Many of these crafted epics simply weren't competitive, but are now very desirable. For example, was a pretty meh item up until now, but when you throw a socket in there, it suddenly raises eyebrows a bit.

This is an opportunity both for crafters and non-crafters: On my server, these regularly go for ~6k gold, which is essentially the material cost, even without considering the three orbs required. This is probably because crafters have been using them to get up to 525, and the mediocre stats before made demand minimal.

With this change, I expect prices to spike by several thousand gold tonight, and then probably settle back down to a normal profit amount (8k?) as sellers get orbs and fill the market. Its generally very, very dangerous to mess around with flipping crafted items, but I think this is a pretty unique circumstance and to do just that, since demand will temporarily spike and the crafters will probably take a day or two to farm enough orbs to take up the slack. Obviously, if you are a crafter with orbs to spare, all the better.

I'm curious if anyone here sees a major flaw in this idea. Obviously, this only works if your server prices are structured like mine, where these chests go for around the raw mat cost.

And on the flip side anyone using them suddenly need a gem to toss in it Between that and the change in some of the metas, it's a win-win. I agree, it won't last, we'll probably see the initial jump over today and tomorrow then another on the weekend. That could just be my server, but that's how it usually works there.

•Elementium Deathplate now has 321 Strength (-20) and 208 Mastery Rating (-20). Now has a Yellow Socket (+10 Strength socket bonus)
•Elementium Girdle of Pain now has 233 Strength (-20) and 149 Haste Rating (-20). Now has a Yellow Socket (+10 Strength socket bonus)
•Hardened Elementium Girdle now has 233 Strength (-20) and 149 Mastery Rating. (-20). Now has a Blue Socket (+10 Dodge socket bonus)
•Hardened Elementium Hauberk now has 321 Strength (-20) and 208 Parry Rating. (-20). Now has a Blue Socket (+10 Parry socket bonus)
•Light Elementium Belt now has 233 Intellect (-20) and 149 Spirit (-20). Now has a Yellow socket (+10 Intellect socket bonus)
•Light Elementium Chestguard now has 321 Intellect (-20) and 208 Critical strike rating (-20). Now has a Yellow socket (+10 Intellect socket bonus)

You may be gaining a socket, but you are losing other stats. These items are just better now if you want to itemize differently. The real money to be made here is the extra gem sockets showing up on everyones gear means more gem sales today.

Absolutely, great point that I should have made clearer. The total ilvl and stat points is unchanged, but the addition of flexibility makes them more desirable for classes that are highly dependent on a single stat.

So for me, as an example, the Elementium Deathplate loses 20 Str and 20 Mastery. I would fill the yellow socket with a , which gives 20 Str and 20 Haste -- Haste is slightly better than Mastery for 1H DKs, but only slightly. Call it a wash.

But now I get +10STR from the socket bonus, which suddenly puts this thing within a whisker of the previous pre-hardmode Best In Slot. Add in flexibility for classes that want to customize (for instance, arms warriors like crit over mastery, DW DKs like haste over it, etc) and I think you've got enough for a demand boost.

Looks like the Leather crafted gear got left behind on this. Won't know for sure until login, though.

•Chestguard of Nature's Fury now has 321 Intellect (-20) and 221 Mastery Rating (-20). Now has a Red Socket (+10 Haste Rating socket bonus)
•Lightning Lash now has 233 Intellect (-20), 149 Spirit (-3) and 169 Haste Rating (-10). Now has a Red Socket (+10 Intellect socket bonus)
•Stormleather Sash now has 233 Intellect (-20) and 116 Mastery Rating (-20). Now has a Red Socket (+10 Intellect socket bonus)
•Twilight Scale Chestguard now has 321 Intellect (-20) and 214 Critical strike rating (-20). Now has a Red Socket (+10 Haste Rating socket bonus)

Sorry, I should have posted it all. I do not see any tailoring changes. Also back to the original note the two shields will probably both have sockets, yet I do not see any stat changes on those so that may be a bonus there in those sales. EDIT: Just got into game and the shields do not have sockets. Also I had a yellow chimeras eye in my crafted belt in the belt buckle slot - that got moved into the blue gem slot they put in and they left the belt buckle slot empty. Waste of 500g there.

The stat changes on all these pieces are datamined info from mmo and not actual blue posts. The fact that an extra socket is going in is a blue post.

    You got it

Seemed like a ton of people had made the migration, so I took the plunge too.

That is rough. I've had 50-50 luck petitioning GM's in similar situations in the past; its worth a shot. Take 2 minutes to explain and hope for the best.

Thanks, Aeg - that's good info to have. My Rogue still seems to have gotten left out...
