The Goods, The Ban and the Uglies

    Hello,

I just thought I'd share with you all a very recent experience of mine, what caused it, how it was solved and how it was clarified. Good reading and I hope this will be helpful to others.

    The Goods:
I've entered at brute force the Darkmoon Decks' market on my server, on both factions. I multibox, I own 6 accounts and one is exclusively dedicated to trade. I've been selling quite well and I've been buying everyday over 50k of herbs from both AH and direct traders.

    The Ban:
Two days ago, while trading, at around 23:00 I was banned. Opened ticket with others accounts, mailed them and in the morning I called Blizzard. First call it was to the UK customer service. The person that answered me was unable to give me any insight on what had happened or when/how the situation would be clarified at all.
I didn't give up and a few hours later I called French customer service and it was much better.
The guy explained to me that over a certain amount of gold traded in a single period of 12h, accounts were immediatelly banned as if in some sort of automatic procedure, tagged as potential gold sellers. He told me that the issue was under investigation that he could clearly see that I was "apparently" clean but it could take up to 3 days to have everything settled. Fortunatelyt my account was back 2h later.

    The Uglies:
As I recovered my account I opened a ticket ingame asking for some clarifications about the whole situation. I had an extremely competent GM addressing the situation and here's the important facts of our conversation:

    1 - Avoid earning over 50k in less than a 12h period (quite hard when you sell epic items - decks);
2 - After the 1st Ban we cannot immediatelly tag your account as a "clean" seller as we're afraid it might get compromised under this tag. You still have to be "banned" 2-3 more times and get it back to "achieve" this title (I'm being sarcastic here but not in this words, that exactly what he said).

This is really ugly... it's bad... fair hits next Jan2, a sunday... good day to be banned really I think I'll have around 50 decks to sell and I must refrain from it OR and that's what I'll probably do, I'll use my 6 accounts to spread the deals but it'll be a pain...

I'm selling the decks from 16k-35k, depending on type of deck.

Thank you for your time spent reading.
    A nice day,
    A.

So if you sell 2 decks you get banned?

    That sucks...

In order to get around the issue, I can see two solutions:

1/ Contact the GM department, warn them that as of Jan.02, you will be making sh*tloads of money, and try to see if they can't extend you a sort of ban-umbrella for, say 48h
2/ If not, try trading gold between your accounts to get banned once or twice now, so you're tagged as "clean" by the 2nd (which, I am aware, is dangerously close).
Edit: regarding n2, you should obviously discuss this with the GM department beforehand. No sense in kicking the anthill for nothing.

    Hope this helps, good luck!

The guy who used to run the GDKP's I attended has been banned several times, because half way through he'd hit the old gold cap from sales and send 214k gold around like it was nothing, then would send out 10-15k after the raid to everyone via mail. If you are calm and explain it, they'll understand.

Luckily I haven't had this happen to me yet, and just this last month I've had 4 vials of the sands sell for more than 70k and sold multiple decks. =/

This is a joke really, especially as it's not exactly hard to make 50k in a couple of hours at the moment. Not just selling decks but selling any epic or expensive item and to top it all the fact you need to be banned multiple times to be ignored is even worse. Did you get any compensation for this idiocy.e.g. some extended game time?

They really need to add some intelligence to this banning. It's fine having an automated system to put up a marker for investigation but that should be all, the ban should involve a human interaction.i.e. a GM investigates the markers and decides if a ban is needed or it's a legitimate player. They need to do this anyway once the player contacts them to retrieve their account so their not exactly spending any extra resources by doing so first but they are preventing what is effectively harassment of legitimate players.

Heard of people trying this previously and they have been told by GM's they can't do anything about it as it's an automated system so even giving advance warning won't stop you getting banned as even if they put a note on your account it won't even be investigated until you try to retrieve it.

I think the most important thing from all of this is the achievement and invisible title. Does this count as a Feat of Strength?

This is another reason Blizz needs to outright ban anyone that buys gold. Target the user, not the dealer. Of course this will never happen but I can dream in my land of chocolate and blue bunnies.

As Zero said, targeting the user is the key because if they don't there will always be a market due to buyers having no fear of consequence.

Gold sellers don't care because they either bot or steal the gold anyway, so banning them solves little while people who actually care about their accounts suffer.i.e. in the case of people like us, or don't care.i.e. in the case of the buyers. Their targeting the wrong people completely in the way they are trying to solve the issue.

I've never heard of someone being banned for buying gold...I've know of lots of people who have bought gold (quite a few personally) and lots of people who got banned for making gold, but never anyone who was banned for buying gold.

I've known one person that got banned, but he called customer support and gave them some sob story about his account being compromised and they unlocked the account. I had raided with him for 2 years and he bought like 10,000g. My initial response was they should have investigated it and seen that it was always the same IP logging in and out and just left him banned. All of my friends know that if they buy gold and I find out about it, I will endlessly make fun of them.
