    TSM vs Auctionator

I have been reading gold making blogs and reading these forums for a few weeks/months now. I came from using Auctioneer for my very limited AH transactions to getting rid of that and moving to TSM exclusively, which is a very strong tool. I use it daily and am slowly unlocking more and more of its capabilities.

One thing I'm curious about is that many people post snatch lists/dealfinding lists in Auctionator and sometimes in TSM. So it seems either the community uses one or the other or both.

My main question is, what is the difference between the two? Are these two addons supposed to be used complimentary or is one supposed to be used over the other. I have not tried Auctionator...i'm at work now which is my weak excuse.

Also side question, this is the addon forum and I know there is a specific TSM forum but that one is entitled "development", should I be posting all my TSM questions there not just TSM development related questions. ie. How to use vs new features/bugs.

I use a combination of the two. The downside with TSM is that the AH can be upto an hour out of date (or hours if the TSM app can't get the snapshot) - running a profession or full scan on my server is unfeasable due to the size of the AH. If I want to make a quick price check or buy some items in bulk it's sometimes quicker to use Auctionator. The other nice feature is Auctionator can perform a much more limited realtime scan of the AH - eg 'Contenders Leather' - returning all the current item prices within seconds. This would have to be done as part of a shopping list or profession scan in TSM. It'd be nice if Auctionator could update the datastore with the latest snapshot of whatever items it sees.

I'm as big of an Auctionator fan as anybody (and would recommend using it alongside TSM), but as far as I can tell, what @WoWNynx said is incorrect for both TSM and Auctionator. Maybe he's getting them mixed with Auctioneer. Auctioneer (not TSM or Auctionator) is the only addon which stores a database of auctions that you can scan. Both Auctionator and TSM do a "realtime" (meaning scan everything when you ask for it - not use a database) scan when you search. TSM can do pretty much everything Auctionator can do in a similar fashion in the background, it's just a matter of which interface suits you better.

Auctionator has a more minimalist UI. It provides real-time searching, a "memory" for any scanned auction data and prices, and a more powerful search and posting UI than the stock.

TSM took all of that a step further by integrating it to professions and crafting, as well as providing a graphical interface to set up features like auction "rules" to govern all the when and how things about auctions. It also provides some more powerful scanning options and the ability to remember all scan data externally (and update it from external sources!), the ability to see most recent cost and profit analysis, and a whole slew of features I don't even use and can't accurately describe.

Many people, myself included, feel that Auctionator is really what Blizzard should have coded the AH UI to look and function like. It basically takes the stock UI and extends it to be more friendly to power users.

I can only agree with @Sapu94 about loving both, Auctionator as well as TSM. When looking at only the buying tools I still prefer for most parts Auctionator. But this could likely also be related to the fact that I got used to it so much more (and was using it also way before I knew anything about TSM). Best thing about it is still the simplistic UI, and together with TSM in the portfolio you already have the most powerful gold making tools at hand... Dont want to miss any one of them. So for me the topic should be named "TSM plus Auctionator" ( = Win)
